Saturday and it is Speak Up Day! By Geniusofdespair

Got an issue, now is the time to get it on the internet.  Don't think you are going to trash someone. Just tell us about your issue, what bugs you, what you think we should be doing/concentrating on. Push your candidate (no trashing). Go ahead, we are listening.

My issue: It is my sister's birthday. I lost her years and years ago to drugs (she is not dead). I hope she is okay, wherever she may be. Happy Birthday Sis, I think of you often. Drugs suck.

Finally the people on both coasts are waking up and rebelling about the water being dumped from Lake Okeechobee. They were quiet for far too long:

Today, Sanibel Mayor Kevin Ruane called upon the Army Corps of Engineers and the South Florida Water Management District to immediately cease any and all back pumping into Lake Okeechobee. "It is unconscionable that back pumping into Lake O. for any reason would be permitted while devastating massive releases are being justified by the current level of the water in the Lake. We demand all back pumping into the Lake be immediately stopped."

The relationship between developers and politicians who are put in office due to the cash contributions from those same developers. Then comes the ensuing corruption and justification for votes in favor of those same developer's applications and a feckless Miami Dade County State Attorney who allows the cycle to repeat over and over.
The people are not represented or protected from the end result which is terrible planning resulting in high density projects, retail without enough parking unless you are prepared to hike and endless hours wasted in traffic.
Along the same lines is the absence of seeking to bring any high tech or higher end industrial projects to the area that would at least encourage the educated to stay in the area. We seem to be satisfied in allowing retail and service jobs to be the leading business model.
The silver lining in jobs within the greater Miami area is medical, many of the best and brightest are located here but that is because of the volume of people requiring care which also attracts the fraudsters to game the volume.
Between the county and the municipalities there seems to be a lack of a cohesive message to restructure the current paradigm which is not working for most. Example a two hour commute to travel 20-30 miles to where the jobs are on a daily basis is the equivalent of 500 hours and close to three weeks a year just sitting in a car. Think about ten years in that job, more than six months of your life were stuck in traffic.
Thank you developers, politicians and those who allow corruption to continue.

Wynwood Walls, my favorite place to visit. Better than the museums with second rate exhibits.

When are we going to have a Miami Dade County mayor and commission with the courage and initiative to build Metro Rail to west Kendall? The traffic is akin to Trump's wall across the border.

FDOT sucks. Try getting on the Palmetto/Don Shula from Bird Road after 3:00 p.m., better yet try getting off the Palmetto/Don Shula and going west on Bird Road at the same time. Multiple light changes minimal movement and intersection is blocked. Even the daredevils hold their breath.

I heard Commissioner Ken Russell fired the Executive Director of the Omni CRA. That should send a message to Gimenez that the piggy bank he is eyeing to save his Science Museum project will not be available. Go Russell!

Gimenez will never admit he screwed up by handing over $160M for the construction of that museum, without any safeguards that the private money would be there to match the tax dollars. Gimenez is a horrible manager of the public's treasury. Not to be trusted.

Regarding Gov. Scott's bill, "Prevention of Acts of War" that would allow "military force to keep out immigrants or refugees from certain parts of the world..."

I agree with Democratic Rep. Dave Kerner of Lake Worth statements about this bill, "It's unconstitutional, it's offensive, it does nothing for the safety and protection of our state and it's highly ineffective and very subjective. I could go on for hours about problems I have with the bill."

Haven't heard about the hyper saline water in BISCAYNE bay and the turkey point power plant . Also would be nice to see an article about the state of the pine rocklands habitat and the hardwood hammocks in south DADE .

Most pressing problems in South Florida are overdevelopment (Yes, building moratorium until traffic and infrastructure is fixed)! Our polluted waters (buy up all sugar lands to allow cleanup of Lake water plus get all of the state on board including those north of Lake Okeechobee who contribute to the pollution). Save and protect what little natural areas and farmland we have left.

A bloom of Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, persists along Pinellas, Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee, and northern Collier counties in Southwest Florida. Respiratory irritation continues to be reported in several bloom areas of Southwest Florida including Siesta Key Beach, Longboat Key, and Englewood Beach. Fish kills have also been reported along Longboat Key and Englewood Beach. Forecasts by the USF-FWC Collaboration for Prediction of Red Tides show southern/alongshore movement of bloom waters in Southwest Florida over the next 3 days.

A very disturbing article was posted on the Daily mail over the weekend about the massive leak at the old neuclear power plant in New York. It's horrible what's happening, and to think that we're not very far from the same situation is even more disturbing.

nobody knows the true amount of County taxpayer money spent by commissioners, mayor, staff, their family and friends on travel junkets and "trade missions". Now pepe diaz is again in charge of the county funded and seemingly private trade agency after formerly being relieved of that duty after his staff was caught faking reports of their so-called accomplishments. A full audit of the Port budget where much of this money is hidden away in the budget as well as department and commission office travel budgets will reveal the $millions these people use to live it up with top travel and accommodations.
