The Waldman Dynasty has Ended in Hudstead. By Geniusofdespair

Larry Roth

Realtor Larry Roth got 58.19% of the vote to become a Council member in seat 3. That is a measly 970 votes out of 24,120 registered voters. Roth takes over the seat occupied by Judy Waldman ( the one that Judy's husband Mervin was campaigning for). Mervin got 413 votes.  Jeff Porter won in a landslide vote of 73.79% (1,236 votes).

Roth won with 4% of registered voters. Hudstead is such a disappointment. Wayne Rosen will have to be kissing some new ass.

Judy was in office from 2001 -- 14 years.

Waldman was the leader of the Homestead version of the unreformable majority during the land and over building boom and remains best buds with Steve Shiver. Roth will bring a new and no strings attached vision to the Council. City staff can breathe much easier this morning.

Homestead can breathe a much-needed sigh of relief!

Genius, the extreme nastiness in which Waldman, not Judy's husband himself, but the Waldman "machine" conducted themselves in order to "cling to power" by proxy was in a word - disgusting!

And I'm talking about "Hudstead" here, so you can just imagine how low the bar has been set. Not even during the Bateman years (and that is saying something) did we Homestead residents have been subjected to such hatred and just pure, undiluted vitriol.

It not that Larry got 58% of the vote and got elected outright, its that Waldman got so little by comparison. The "Waldman Camp" aimed a "big cannon" toward Larry and the "barrel" blew up in their faces.

You could even say, "literally."

One creep out and another CREEP in. standard homestead .......

Politics is a dirty business but for Mr/Mrs. Waldman who is Mr. Roths neighbor and co-worker to conduct such a low and slimy campaign against Mr. Roth who does a lot of charity work in Homestead is beyond reprehensible.

Anyone who bothers to conduct a nasty campaign in Homestead will not be able to count on my vote. Tell me what you plan to do or what you have done and let the voters decide.

The difference between the candidates was evident. Larry put the community first. The Waldmans put themselves first. Do that and sometimes you lose elections. Not always but sometimes. 413 votes for the Waldman effort tells a story of how far she has fallen. 7% of the registered voters decide for 100% of Homestead residents.

The sad thing is that nobody in homestead votes for multible reasons, and for only 7% voting is a shame. Anyone in this town can run and win. You dont need knowlege of anything, just fill out the packet and put your name on a sign. SAD DAYS in the stead :(

7% of the voters decided this election. The lack of voter participation shows how little the residents care about who represents them on the dais. You can't complain if you don't vote.

Sad thing is that the Anonymous above is correct: you don't need to know anything to win in Homestead...and your history doesn't even matter.

It was time for the Waldmans to go though.

Let's see if Judy attends her last COW and City council meetings this month.
If she does, I'll bet Jimmy Williams will have some nice parting words for her since she sicced the Herald on him.

Merv and Judy ended up with 1.75% of the voters registered supporting them. You can blame turnout but if she did as much as she claimed and if he was such a great replacement that logic is refuted in the vote. IMHO the reason for such a dismal showing was her backdoor effort to get another term. The people saw her as a kamikaze pilot taking off on her final flight.

Karma Karma Just remember what she said on stage about Mayor Bateman. She was all about that whole thing. Just watch her on video.
She knew 2 years in advance. Next Jimmy then Mr Roth. I agree with the other comments it was time for the Waldmans to go. Just hope they stay gone. Poor Homestead and thats not just an adjective. in debt for 30 years for the first time in the history of the city. Lots of Big plans right????

Loserville.

Actually the first ANON (Losner or Bell you both sound the same) Shiver didn't support Waldman. In fact Judylicious was so mad at Shiver that she doesn't speak to him any more, no sign in the yard, no love on his obnoxious FaceBook etc. Shiver supported Larry Roth you fool but I am glad you have it all figured out here.

The fact of the matter is that although there was the USUAL poor turnout, those who did vote resoundingly kicked Judy to the curb. A butt whooping of that magnitude is a big message to dear Judy. On another note, the puppetmasters are not willingly giving up their quest for control. They are now backing Meno against Honest Jon Burgess. Meno can be seen in countless photos and videos acting like the bodyguard for Steve (you got a purdy mouth)Bateman and who has now morphed into being Judys do-boy who was hird by her to run her last bastion of control, the Villages Clubhouse. This too, will soon pass. Note to Larry:start job hunting. The next two years will be interesting, Mayor Howdy Doody has only one reliable ally left in the form of Stephen (can't I have it both ways and not take a stand)Shelley. The wild card is Elvis while the Councilman who does not live in Homestead is stranded off in the land of legend in his own mind.

I would not call it a dynasty, more like a reign of terror. Ask Patty the long time Council assistant or the Parks and Rec Director.

The SOS ladies must be worried.

the funny(sick) thing is ,they'll all be at capri hangin out together in a few days

The saga of Paradise Lost continues. The Waldman entitlement program of the last few years is over, literally. The council defunded Judy's Villages holiday party in this year's budget. The council knew the end was near.
Maybe Bob Epling and Pinky Munz will fund a party for her instead of the City having to be her personal piggy bank.

Yes, Shiver supported Judy and pushed Meno to run against Burgess. He is such a two-face. He even had the audacity to share Patricia's facebook post about her winning the first leg of the race (i.e., she went unopposed for her council seat) and said so many nice things about her. I can recall when he called her the "B" word and the "N" word. Couldn't stand her especially because of her vote on the bowling alley. Now that the Waldman's are out, he will try to be Larry Roth's best friend.

As long as people refuse to vote Homestead will continue to disenfranchise its citizens . As the city continues to grow its debt , some people will exercise an exit strategy as seen in the past. It seems only fair that those left will financially compensate for the decisions and the lack of leadership. The pension plans, employment compensation and lack of legal oversight make it easy for citizens to get a bad deal. It was pretty boisterous for people to go door to door to enrich their term limits. We had people at our house 3 different times. I still didnt understand the petition. Thats a great big city hall to conduct all this important bussiness we are hearing about. At least they will have no problem keeping the electric on. Is it really possible that new bussiness will invest in these city limits under this group? What do they really have to offer? Krome Ave is dirty and looks semi dangerous at best. The new city hall faces an old phone bld in disrepair. The post office is in bad shape too. You can only pray in these situations.......We have lived here over 30 years and the code enforcement is just another dept that couldn't and doesn't enforce the citys own simple rules for people to enjoy their homes. Most of our neighborhood has turned into bad rentals because owners are afraid to invest anymore money. The city will get the tax's whether people own or rent. We have ATC's , Go Carts, Golf Carts, and all kinds of violations up and down the streets. The police just ignore it. Yards that arent mowed for months.
