Eye On Miami Saturday Editorial Page June 6th. By Geniusofdespair

Miami Herald's loss is our gain when they gave up on a Saturday Editorial Page

The Week In Review by Gimleteye

We've covered some rough subjects this week: Big Sugar, cancer clusters, Parcel B, Art Teele, so let's this Saturday ask the question: why in the world does anyone tolerate our FCC licensed airwaves to be clogged with faces and people who have done absolutely nothing to distinguish themselves. And the news parroting the news about some family with 19 kids ... WTF is wrong with this country?

It's not just the Duggers who I've spent exactly one minute of my life even thinking about. This horrendous urge to distract ourselves with the meaningless is the madness of a culture that has utterly lost its bearings.

The eyeball wearies. The purveyors of entertainments are competing with what? Pornography on the internet? We are all racing to the bottom like crabs scampering off a rock that's suddenly been exposed.

What this trend tells me is that dystopian films like Mad Max, the Divergent Series, or whatever else there is are onto something. That manufactured entertainments have always been part of popular culture in the West is indisputable.

What about the Housewives of (take your pick)? Aren't they worthy of mention. Vapid is the word...and big tits.

In a game of musical chairs, Alice Bravo, City of Miami Assistant Manager, might replace Ysela Llort for County Transit Chief. Did you see or hear about a job search, I didn't hear about a job search being conducted.

Two Mayors are feuding: Miami Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez with terse exchanges to City of Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine (who has been mocking the expensive waterfront nail clipper building the County is partly funding). Note to Carlos, Levine is ten times more clever and can take you in any pissing match. Don't try to bully him. Be polite.  I suppose Carlos Gimenez is also  feuding with City of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado who is suing the County over funding the Nail Clipper Building. The city had a referendum and said in it there would be no PUBLIC funding then after the stupid public approved it, the County then came up with $9 Milllion to  fund it. Colossal waste of money.

Skyrise the Nail Clipper.

I truly don't believe that the typical person connects the dots and realizes that a difference can be made by participating. That enlightenment usually comes too late after they have realized a wrong and are out protesting in anger. The grind of attending meetings, after work, is a huge time commitment. The alternative is easier - flip on the device and be entertained.

It's placed there intentionally, designed to distract us all from what's really happening. The Kartrashcans are the government's biggest prize.

So keep watching them every day, as there is still much more that needs to be done while your looking the other way....

Enough said.

Yes I have been binge watching the tube: Mad Men. You can distract me with just about anything on the tube except Country Music Awards.

Can't really call it tube anymore can I?

Get rid of your cable and get a digital antenna. It's refreshing NOT to pay for trash and actually get a crystal clear picture.

Of the current County directors, I can recall only one recently that had a nationwide search. Michael Liu's Sept 2014 hiring resulted in a new $74 million housing called Liberty City Rising. Cudos to him.

I wonder why there is a Mayoral dread towards outsiders? With the huge braindrain exodus in the department along with impending flood of retirements, this is the wrong entrenched stance. Is it just to enforce loyalty?

Alive Bravo leaving the City of Miami would be great news for all City of Miami residents. She has been at the center of every crooked and illegal deal burdening citizens. Good riddance.

If transit is SO important to Mayor Gimenez there should be a national search for the new transit director. What exactly is Ms Bravo's transit expertise and how has her tenure at City of Miami been?

While are Natural resources are being stripped and our National parks/Environmentally sensitive land is being given away to the highest bidder, I can only see Mad Max in our future, and I didn't even like the movie.........

I am one of the few who has spent less than a minute, if I can avoid it, on trash reality TV. It all came about when the real writers went on strike, that was Hollywood's answer/curse to the American public's attention span!

As to Gimenez, he really, really needs to go. He also needs to stop giving away our public property and using at as a campaign finance piggy bank!

I'm still stuck on the Ron Book blog. What a colossal waste of tax dollars and the House still won't buy land with the 75% voter approved dollars, they want to use it for administrative stuff and have padded boards who know nothing but whatever big sugar tells them which is to not buy their land!

Do I have this summation right?

Geniusofdespair said...

Right! I can't get over that Ron Book's daughter rakes in $100,000 from that charity.

Watch RoseWater its an wonderful movie. Don't watch trash. I really want an HD attenna. I have about 100 newscasts I have to record and then its bye bye dish network.
Today instead of watching tv I drove with a friend out to Clewiston then down to STA 5/6 to see what that was like. Very unimpressive but on the adjacent land is more land that belongs to US Sugar. The water was really low but institutionally I could understand why no one wants to mess with the water going south. They are not protecting any in the STA's. They are protecting big sugar and their need to control the water. ( We knew this, know this but seeing it it all sunk in. The place and nasty and there were brown spiders in the bathroom. I hope none the Board of Governors go down there and take their wives.

Why is anyone surprised about Gimenez's failure to conduct national searches for qualified individuals to fill directorships of county departments? Are you not aware that every county department direction is but a puppet who has traded his ethics and professionalism for a good salary and benefis? The only reasons they are selected for the jobs is because they are willing to lie, cheat and cover up for Gimenez. The current chaos in the county is only intended to permit Gimenez's and his lobbyists friends to profit with proceeds from juicy county contracts. What is even worse is a guy like MDPD DIRECTOR J.D. PATTERSON who is utilizing the police department as a tool to investigate Gimenez's opponents and allow Gimenez's friends to conduct their illicit activities without incident. This county administration is reminiscent of an organized crime ring with the law on its side. We are all screwed.

like true third world country style,

Alice Bravo should consult with her peers at the City of Miami, mostly former county employees, and ask why they left. Her stock in the public sector arena would go up ten-fold if she tells Gimenez NO.

I thought Alice came from the county.

Alice Bravo worked for FDOT. Now she works for Marc Sarnoff and lobbyists.

I hope the nail clipper monstrosity falls over! Shame on the people of Miami for voting to allow such a gross monstrosity! Shame on the Commission for allocating 9 million of taxpayers money for more corporate welfare. Shame on the liars who said it wouldn't cost the taxpayers a penny! This County went to HELL a long time ago, and just when you can't imagine things getting any worse, they always do. Chalk it up to stupidity, apathy, greed, and an utter lack of integrity.Us activists have a huge job, just waking up the sleeping and junk TV watching idiots!
