Revealed: The GOP's Ten Commandments on Climate Change … by gimleteye

In public, GOP leaders are climate change deniers. In private, they understand climate change perfectly well. The difference is that disclosure doesn't serve the party's purposes. Climate change denial -- against the backdrop of accumulating science and fact -- is like an electrical charge stimulating the Republican base.

Here are the GOP's ten commandments of climate change.
1) Climate change is like the weather: there is nothing we can do about it.

2) We are top predator. Others must adapt to us or die.

3) It doesn't matter if climate change is man-made: whatever happens is God's will.

4) Since our God in the only God, we know what is best for you.

5) As the party of limited government, any effort to strengthen environmental regulations is cutting our own throats.

6) As the party of capitalism, we are against any climate-driven protectionism unless it serves our interests.

7) If climate change requires subsidies, existing subsidies will be protected, first. Any additional subsidies will have to adapt to ours.

8) Dissenters on climate change are psychological deviants, to be dealt with and isolated from decision-making.

9) If there is a dispute on climate change between constituencies the GOP represents, the leadership will side with that person who concentrates our political power.

10) We will adapt our behavior to impacts of climate change as they happen, not before.

Deprogramming the nutty global warming cultists will be difficult. They are obsessed!

Anonymous said...

How arrogant to believe that humans are affecting climate change.

Incredibly this country landed first on the moon, did they bring back any lunatics?

Yes there are cultists who obsessively point to the Little Ice Age or a cold winter in New England to argue that global warming isn't real, but you are right: GOP leaders can read science papers. They are not all idiots. The only explanation is that denial serves their power. Their commandments are cruel but they do know what is best for you. Isn't that btw what Jeb Bush's compassionate conservativism was all about?

"Nutty global warming cultists" - perfect definition!

Fortunately, most younger people aren't swallowing this fallacy and are realizing that man does not cause climate change.

Was mankind around when climate change caused previously existing animals who roamed the earth to die out? NO.

Wow, the Koch Brothers-funded trolls are out in full force!

Dear anon above, you are right. This is the only man-made extinction event as a result of climate change. What would Jesus do?

Lets try acting environmentally consciously while maintaining and defending the interests of the USA.

Just nonsense from the trolls. Haven't heard any republican voices saying you are wrong.

Not a top priority when the President is keeping the world in danger by attempting to validate his Nobel Peace Prize.

you forgot one. "Thou shalt not admit to the factual existence of global warming (never call it climate change) until such time as the chosen ones may find a way to profit from it (preferably by selling a product that we can mandate the use of and that will cause other problems that we can then blame on climate scientists)"

The subsidies for fossil fuels far exceed those for renewables.

The subsidies for fossil fuels worldwide are $548,000,000,000, if shifted towards climate change, would go a long way towards ending the problem. http://www.worldenergyoutlook.org/resources/energysubsidies/

So for the trolls and GOP Koch suckers,.let's agree to end all subsidies for all fuels worldwide as a starting point...and watch renewables swallow so much of the fossil fuel industry.

PLUS, remember fossil fuels have been getting as much as $700B-to current $548B for decades-DECADES. Talk about giveaways! How about giving renewables a few decades at a reduced rate to 'catch up'?

How do you like me know?

Now, that is one cynical post. But it is true, 100%. Which is why people don't like cynics - they point out that the Emperor is wearing no clothes.

Many formerly pro manmade climate change scientists have changed their minds when it came out that most scientific studies were hoaxes.

It was Al Gore who did it for me. I sort of believed all this crap while I was in school. Then I read that Gore is all about lies. He flies where he should drive, lives in a 10,000 sq ft mansion, even his marriage was all fake. I started reading what the other side had to say, and I realized I had fallen for all the global warming crap. It's all bullshit.

Troll, I mean, Anon, above: your statement is simply not true. It IS a fact, however, (I know, I know, you Fox-loving head-in-the-sand types don't really like truth or facts on any subject, but I'll try anyway) there have been several prominent deniers that have looked at the factual data and realized they were wrong.

Exhibit A: http://theweek.com/articles/491378/6-global-warming-skeptics-changed-minds

Exhibit B: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/30/opinion/the-conversion-of-a-climate-change-skeptic.html?_r=0
(this guy was a denier already when he received funding from the Koch brothers to conduct the biggest study ever meant to "debunk" climate science - and he ended up being convinced by the data and realized the truth).

Eventually, just like the people who insisted that "smoking is not bad for you" and "lead additives in gasoline are not harming the environment or people", the climate change deniers will go the way of the Dodo Bird. Its the same playbook used before, and just as it failed before, it will now. Enjoy your obsolescence.

Why do you insult me because I disagree with you?
And for your information, I have never watched Fox. I don't own a TV. I read at night.

Ummm ... you just described the strategy of the left-wing global warming wingnuts who pledge allegiance to Al Gore. Any scientist or politician who disagrees with the cult's viewpoint is labeled a "denier" and endlessly harassed.

When cannibalism becomes necessary, I'm going to eat all of you climate-denying trolls first.

To the Troll in the grass skirt and unrefrigerated food...please let me know where you are so I can laugh at you as I drive by in my Tesla powered by home solar panels while drinking a frozen smoothie whipped up in my home solar powered blender/fridge...LOL.
