January 22nd is The County Transportation Summit. By Geniusofdespair

This is what you will get if you don't give some input.
The Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust (Our Board) is putting on this event with partners (such as the county and chamber).  We need individuals there so the chamber is not the overwhelming voice of the community. Go to the damn Summit.

It is January 22 from 8:30 am to 6 pm. I know, it is way too long and will get you in rush hour traffic. Go when you can. It is at the Wolfson Campus of Miami Dade College (300 NE 2nd Avenue).

Anyway, there will be breakout sessions, opportunities to interact with community leaders and transportation professionals. Your voice NEEDS to be heard. I would suppose they will have lunch there so they don't lose you. They aren't stupid.

I won't be around or I would go  for sure.  I would think that the Ludlam Trail people should attend this.

You can get further information from 305 779-7875 or citt@miamidade.gov. See the members of the Trust and their biographies.

Just found out, there will be box lunches, am I psychic or what (no, I can read the county like a book). The addition of a free lunch makes this much more worthwhile to attend. There is usually an apple and chips with a choice of 3 sandwiches. Maybe they will leave out the apple and go with a cookie. They also have sodas and water.

To be an activist, you have to  start going to these stupid things. So go. This one seems pretty painless.

If they are going to have free lunch, then it makes sense go and stay the day. Having to leave and look around downtown for lunch makes it easy to just go back home, or some place else. Besides, it is a small price to contribute for someone who is investing 8 hours of their time for community work. Remember time is finite.

I have been to dozens of these things over the years. IMHO they are pretty useless. They allow the activists to blow off steam, and provide the transportation "mavens" a venue to "hold court" and hear themselves talk. The County shlubs that put it on are merely glorified party planners. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING COME OUT OF ONE OF THESE EVENTS.

Let's see. If you make $25 per hour x 8 hours = $200 investment in the community. If you make $100 per hour x 8 hours = $800 investment in the community. It seems that if people are willing to make these kinds of time investments by attending, they would definitely want to know what they have to say.

I know some of the members of the Trust. They wouldn't waste your time.

Someone from the Citizens Independent Transportation Trust should have looked at the calendar for the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), which is responsible for all transportation planning in Miami-Dade County. To schedule an all-day transportation forum on the same day as the monthly MPO meeting is just incredibly bad planning. And you wonder why we are having problems getting our act together?

The financial investment is even greater than that. You forgot travel time there and back, gasoline, and parking downtown.
