2014: Story of the Year? … by gimleteye

In 2012, it was Ana Sol Alliegro; discredited, defeated Congressman David Rivera's gal pal who did a Harriette Houdini to Nicaragua rather than rat out the GOP elite she hung with. In 2013, it was Miami-Dade absentee ballot fraud, setting the standard for the nation in corrupt election practices.

What are your suggestions for the 2014 Eye On Miami story of the year?

Um. That's an easy one. Has to be the defeat of an incumbent county commissioner Lynda Bell by Daniella Levine Cava.

I agree. Lobbyist money could not topple the hard earned donations of regular folks. What a feat! The Levine Cava win is the big story.

We may need a few categories:

Election win of the year:

Cava v Bell

Indicted and walked:

Robaina (the bad one)
Potty mouth Pizzi

Indicted, in trial:

Tondreau - former North Miami Mayor

Indicted/Convicted

Bateman - former Homestead Mayor

Indicted/plead Guilty

Marono - former Sweetwater Mayor

Most dishonest polician:

Dist. 26 - Curbello missing 93K+ in campaign reporting, preaching ethics while not disclosing his lobbyist client list!

Most dishonest government body:

The unreformable Majority of the BCC not using the Bond program as promised to the voters in 2004. Paving over our parkland, giving away prime public land, bad stadium deals for billionaires and tax dollars to publicly funded museums named after minor donors who are billionaires on prime land!

Want more? Yea, I know I went off topic but couldn't stop myself.

Charlie Crist/Annette Taddeo into the political junkyard, again.

Agree that the Crist - Taddeo ticket deserves a nomination as "the Most Ridiculous ever attempt by the Democrats"

Most dishonest politician: South Miami Mayor Philip Stoddard; his entire political career is a huge series of lies - does this guy ever tell the truth?

Dear Mr. Feliu or Jorge Luis, please take your complaints elsewhere.

Jorge Luis Lopez, the lobbyist? How about Jorge trying to deceive the voters into giving him and his clients $393 MILLION? Voters, for once, saw through the lies and crushed Jorge and his judges 2 to 1.

Levine Cava election or the Walmart/UM land fiasco.

Read Levine-Cava editorial in today's paper, finally a voice from District 8 that sees the need of the people, and is going to work on solutions. Welcome change and the big story for Miami Dade County this year.

I think the story of the year should continue to be about the lack of voter participation...

also, how much money every crooked politician from the governor on done are making "legally" by exploiting their power.

Story of the year should be toxic parks and lackluster cleanup

The story of the year is the ongoing corruption occurring in this county as a result of the strong mayor format. It was Gimenez who in 2007 introduced an ordinance preventing MDPD from investigating the Mayor's or Commissioner's office. Since that time no county commissioner or mayor has been arrested. It was Gimenez who destroyed the MDPD Anti-Corruption Unit to prevent it from investigating his office. Now he is free to conduct his dealings with Jorge Luis Lopez, et al, unchecked. Hopefully the new Special Agent in Charge at FDLE will fight Gimenez and his corruption.

the unfettered dishonesty, self-serving corruption of the city of miami commission, particularly regalado and sarnoff.

Nail Clipper Building.

Sarnoff acting like a bully and a thief virtually unchecked is a story... He just got busted trying to give property on NE 14th Street (Firehouse site) to one of his buddies at a 75% discount. Ick.
