I attended most of the "debate" tonight and I have to say that I think that Daniella got eaten alive. Lynda "Slash-and-Burn" Bell steam-rollered her. Daniella was too cerebral and soft-spoken and I also don't think that the questions posed were very fair. They seemed to be biased towards Lynda Bell. Daniella ceded the moral high ground by bringing up the topic of discretionary funds and got her head handed to her by Bell, who claimed that discretionary funds have not been available for 4 years for any Commissioner. Is that true? Anyone care to rebut that? About the time I left, Daniella brought up the point about Bell leasing an office and moving out of the South Dade Government Center, to the tune of $250K. Bell responded by saying that she only spent $35K and that she moved the office so that it would be in the center of the District. Here is a map of the District 8 boundaries. Tell me if Bell's office, which is at 144 St. and S. Dixie Highway, is in the "center of the District", as Bell claimed. Her office isn't even IN the District!!

Bell just flat-out lied. LIED. But the highly partisan crowd ate it up - anything she said that was anti-union or anti-government the Bell partisans went wild over.

I wasn't impressed with the debate. It was like feeding meat to lions. I'm voting for Cava because I think she is sincere in her wish to serve the residents of this County. But she'd better get a lot better at being ugly when she needs to be.

I attended the debate. I think a point by point fact check us needed. Lynda spoke fast and repeatedly restated her points for emphasis. My neighbor has often gone to her office and the Commissioner won't come out of her office.

Daniella was outstanding. Mrs. Bell was her usual mean, nasty, lying self. I clearly saw the difference last night. My family and I will be voting for Daniella Levine Cava.

The eye-rolling, furiously scribbling of notes and mocking smile displayed by Bell were classic. We have all seen them before here in Homestead. Cava came across as professional, calm and thoughtful. What we need in an elected representative.

If anyone else is not happy with being lied to by Bell, with respect to here assertion that her office is located in the middle of the District for the convenience of her constituents, please call her campaign office, at 786-230-4167 to register your complaint. I did. I can't abide by outright liars. Fudging the facts is one thing, lying is quite another.

unfortunate initial reports above, but liars will always be exposed in the long run...hopefully before the election.

Hands down Daniella Levine Cava won with her poise, direct answers and impressive resume. The eye rolling, grimacing and furious note taking by Ms. Bell was both distracting as well as impolite, but I guess that sums up politics today.

Lynda Bell definitely won the debate last night. Going in as an undecided voter, I left as a Bell supporter because she knew her facts and did not speak in broad terms, knows the community and its people, has done many great things for the district, while taking a stand against the unions. It takes guts and courage to stand up and not pander to the unions. She made a valid point that unions are special interests too.
