That white thing is a propeller scar on the Manatee's back. |
They found my manatee Smokey! He is in a marina nearby. I wrote about him on May 1st. They identified him from his scar.
The vet from Miami Seaquarium and biologists from FWC spent some time with Smokey Thursday. He is a large male. His size, behavior, breathing and swimming were normal.
They catalogued his injuries and they are going to monitor his behavior and location. They are not going to capture him unless they see any changes indicating he needs rehabilitation.
Thank God you are alive Smokey! I thought you were a goner.
You are a tough Manatee!

Great news!!! He is surely the biggest I have ever seen -- so glad he is ok. Thanks.
If this awesome creature could vote and be legally treated like a person as corporations are, would it be a better world?
Good to hear that Smokey is alright. After you didnot hear anything from F&W, I began to think the worse. Is it normal for them to come up close like that in the marina? Seems like he would want to be with the others, but maybe he is a loner and doesn't want to be bothered with them.
THE BEST NEWS! Hooray...
Yay!
There may be something in the marinas that he likes. I wonder what it is?
I bet this manatee swims into the notorious boat slip along with other sea life.
