*NEW* Eye on Miami Contest … by gimleteye

What's your best idea for a public demonstration/ protest against the FPL nuclear plan and/or the politicians who are making it happen? Even Republicans are shuddering.

Last week, Gov. Rick Scott and his cabinet approved two new FPL nuclear reactors and high voltage power lines along the US 1 Corridor from Homestead through Miami. The final barrier is the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Governor Scott sold you down the FPL river.

Voters and taxpayers and ratepayers should protest Gov. Scott and the Florida legislature that allows FPL to get away with whatever it wants, thanks to early cost recovery. Ideas, readers? Please post this link on your social media and send to friends and family.

How about getting a group of kids, who will be paying for Rick Scott's nightmare decision, and letting the kids lead whatever protest is planned.

This is a big deal. Generally optimistic about the possibilities of nuclear energy as a source of power for human civilization, I disbelieve FPL can safely produce nuclear power in South Florida.

The severity of the issue, given the inevitable changes in climate (regardless of cause) methinks compares to situations contemporary or perhaps past in which the concerned were willing to lay their bodies on train tracks, chain them to trucks and gates, block access ways and roads. Some may find that severity out of line. Perhaps unfortunate for us all that they don't bear the same sentiment towards politicians and corpocrats willing to put our lives and livelihood at risk--to even hold us hostage to our own collective necessities.

FPL is a rogue corporation.

Pressure point is Next Era, parent company that does wind and solar power and issues debt at reduced rates as 'green bonds'. Now they just see profits coming from Florida and no downside to their cultivated 'good corporate citizen' reputation in places like California. We need activists in California and similar places to complain to upper management. Here in Florida GOP is paid too well to suck FPL cooling towers. When Next Era has to start paying higher interest rates due to FPL shenanigans, the issues might get traction. "That followed debt sales in 2012 by NextEra Energy Inc. and Elecnor SA’s Enerfin Energy Co. of Canada to finance renewable energy projects." http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-03-28/toronto-dominion-offers-454-million-green-bond.html

Go down to US 1 in the Keys on Sunday at 4:00 right where the traffic starts to back up. Carry signs that say things like:

"If Turkey Point had a nuclear incident right now, you'd be screwed"

Pick a Sunday. When should we do it?

Set a night and on sun down ask everyone in south Florida homes to turn off all lights one hour and then light a candle in memory of everyone who has perished by nuclear radiation.

PharmaScott does bear a slight resemblance to Reddy Kilowatt

Guerrilla movement to put big signs on Metrorail posts "100 foot tall FPL poles coming soon.
Thank Gov Scott"
Put up one a week at a different location each time.
