FEC Slip. By Guest Blogger

The renovation is FINALLY ALMOST DONE, and inviting to the public. You can't say it is not used when it has been blocked off. All these plantings are new.

I don't think we want to fill this in, it never looked so good!!!!

Mickey Arison is the only person to use the slip. Glad he has a nice walkway to ride his magic carpet to the game.

Beckam and his buddy's don't live here or pay taxes here, at least not full time if even part time.

Is anyone else just furious at the way he's dictating what "he" wants? How about not using public land? How about making a deal with Genting to buy some of their waterfront property?

I'm so tired of the chess match with elected officials who do not have the best interest of the public at their core.

I know, vote them out. Really? Until the AB ballot issue has a real ordinance with teeth, it will never happen because the real voters are muted by underhanded tactics of elected officials though their PAC's or Campaign machines funded by people like FPL, Genting and I haven't even looked at the Beckham/Fuller group.

How about Mr. Gimenez just cut it out, and let private enterprise take over. Isn't that what the Tea Party is all about, less government. I'd add, no government land either because that's actually owned by the people who pay for it, and it's not those who want "a waterfront stadium".

I cannot believe we have to keep fighting our elected officials like this. This is truly the death of common sense and has been since they started paving over our food supply in South Dade for houses which are now section 8 or vacant.

Why are there no rental slips here? Charge people to tie up when they go to Heat games or whatever at the arena or the pac or anywhere downtown.

The Eagles uses the slip and other tall ships. The Eagle had 5,000 visitors a day. The Race around the world, used the slip. There was a racing village set up around them. Don't say no one uses the slip if you don't know. People fish from the slip. Now that it is open and tree-lined more and more people will use it.

David Beckhams is not a registered lobbyist last I looked.

The slip is now a waterfront park. Put some benches along the slip and you will see people just hanging out looking at the water, biking and walking through the park. It's real simple. It makes life liveable in Miami to have places like this.

What a crazy building we allowed on our waterfront - the Miami Heat Arena does indeed resemble a giant tuna fish can on the Bay, as Waterfront activist Dan Paul once famously said. The decent thing to do would be let giant vines grow all over it to disguise it.
Oh Dan! What you would have to say about this latest land grab and the lack of vision of our current elected officials.

“If Miami thought it could get more on the tax roll it would construct a whorehouse in Bayfront Park.” Dan Paul.

I just watched the Beckham interview with Putney. I liked him better when he was playing soccer or .underwear. His heavy northern England accent it hard on my ears. It resembles the east end cockney, which makes me cringe.

With that being said - I'd like to ask Beckham if they should move Wembley Stadium and build it on the Thames?

Even Putney dropped the ball with the interview and I adore Putney which makes me a little more annoyed. Okay, the second part of the interview is and Putney is saying that the boat slip is under used! Well, from these pictures, it looks like it's coming along nicely for public use.

Leave our public waterfront alone. Parents from West Kendall and Broward are not going to deal with trying to get to downtown Miami for a soccer game. They don't have a spare 4 hrs to crawl in traffic, plus and 1/2 hour to park and walk, plus the game!

How can the FEC slip and the park be underutilized if it has been closed for museum construction and park improvements.
Why would it suddenly make sense to give waterfront park land for a private company to profit? A stadium can be anywhere since seating directs vision to the field of play, you are not going to see the water while watching an event.
I would like to see some financial explanation of how this proposed stadium makes a profit, it doesn't seem to add up.

It makes financial sense because it's not about the stadium, it's about the waterfront land on the cheap and it's other uses like hotels, retail, etc. in addition to the stadium which is just the carrot. It's not the finale end game or purpose. Our officials love giving away our property, this is a doozy.

Fuller is the one that sickens me. He is arrogant and demanding as though he is a Miami resident who has paid his dues. He insulted Caribbean Cruise Lines who was here long before anyone even heard of Beckham and/or Fuller. He insulted Caribbean Cruise Lines that have been here long before anyone even knew about Beckham or Fuller. Beckham had to tell him, “We don’t want to make enemies.”

I totally agree with the Anon who said it is not about soccer. Nobody sould be fooled into thinking it is. First, Miami-Dade is a huge county and I can assure you that people will not travel from Monroe and Homestead to drive to a soccer game in traffic-congested Miami downtown.

The Beckham/Fuller group only want to get their hands on the Port/water and use it for their own investment purposes and dollars.

The general consensus abroad is that South Floridians are a know-nothing, celebrity-starved people and they can simply appear and we will be eating out of their hands.

Has anyone forgotten what the Marlins said about our meager level of negotiators after they had used us and gotten what they wanted?

I watched the Putney interview, too, and was completely put off by this slick salesman. Beckham is also a shill for the Sands Casiono people...so get ready for a waterfront gambling parlor along with occasional soccer. The arrogance of these a-holes...saying the land next to the Marlins Stadium is "spiritually tainted." Free land now requires a SanteriĆ” cleansing before these jerks will take it??? I want the MLS to be in Miami, but I am already sick of these international shysters coming here and playing Miami for a bunch of backwater hicks who like to take selfies with their hired con-man, I mean front man. Take Beckham out of the picture and let's see who we are really dealing with.

They don't know Miami. They get our waterfront, it and they will be "spiritually tainted" too. Best for them to look for some private land to purchase in Miami. The spirits like to rest, but if called upon, they get active.

Yeh, you are right about the spirits and they live close by at the Miami Circle. . .

The local Miami Commissioner is Marc Sarnoff. He also made himself the Chairman of the DDA. He claims he likes parks. Why hasn't Sarnoff spoken out against this land grab?
