Pictures of Stupid PAM and City of Miami Get Your Downtown in Order! By Geniusofdespair

A tree died so they bricked it up (badly), totally mucking up the sidewalk design we paid a small fortune for.
What is this? a sinkhole in a sidewalk?
This is the sidewalk going to the Heat Arena and that stupid PAM museum. If you are blind, you could get killed tripping in these holes. If you are me, never paying attention on where you are walking, you could also get killed or break a leg or sue the City. $50,000 isn't chump change. Fix these holes in your sidewalk pronto.  Also, I walked for 6 blocks with a paper plate and found no garbage pail. I finally found one at the people mover station.  People are not as dedicated as I am. Get some garbage pails in the area. Keep the city clean.

Here are a few pictures of the PAM stupid museum. PAM was having  a private party (so a guard followed us around) and people were using their parking lot for the Miami Heat Game. I went to see Aaron Neville.

The PAM plaza, a lot of cement

Entrance way. Wood not looking so great.

Entrance

Standing under the green things...I thought they were going to be free flowing vines. My mistake.
Most ominous of all, they had this pod farm tucked away in the corner. Body Snatachers?

dangerous sidewalks and no refuse containers do not make a world class city

There are many problems with the Miami Art Museum AKA PAMM. One problem is that MAM owns no art. Another problem is MAM has no endowment. Another problem is MAM is occupying a public waterfront park which should have been Miami's crown jewel. A huge problem is that MAM is projected to lose over $10+ Mil every year AND WHO WILL PAY TO COVER THE LOSSES?

The Perez Art Museum is gorgeous, and a wonderful experience of the bay. Stop being silly.

I like the new museum, but it is the "little things" - like safe, walkable, and clean streets - that make for a good quality of life.

For $600 Mil, including interest on the bonds sold to pay for construction, lobbyists and soft costs, the place should look better. And who will pay to cover the annual losses?

And who will pay to cover the annual losses?

Silly, you will!

$2.5 million of the operating PAM budget this year came from proprietary revenues from convention development tax because the museum was termed an exhibition hall. HistoryMiami and the science museum also received the same amount. This was a Zapata question (from the dais in September) as to the legality of using this funding source for operations.

LOL! A blind person going to an art museum!

Maybe they are just walking on the sidewalk moron. The art museum is not the only venue. There is a park, a train station, an arena, a cultural arts center besides plenty of residential condos.

Sidewalk and street issues in this area need to be reported by individuals. Don't ask me how I know or how many hours I've spend trying to notify the city. Waste of time. The museum itself will need concrete work on the exterior in ten years.

$2.5 Mil from proprietory taxes to cover the losses from the Miami Art Museum was just a portion of the taxes just to prop up this financial disaster. MAM only sells $200,000+/- in tickets per year, yet now there are 60+ (80?) employees on its bloated payroll. Last year, 2013, MAM had 20% of the space as 2014. With the larger space in a new building and with the massive debt service someone needs to pay $12+ mil to maybe $15 Mil to cover the debt service and operating losses. Think billionaire Jorge Perez wants to pay?

As a grant writer, I have watched MAM look for, hire and lose grant writers and development people year after year. I never applied for any of their positions because it seemed that because they could not keep staff, it did not seem like a promising venture for me.

This is before was before they moved.

They do look like pods! I wonder who they are for? The County Commissioners?

The Perez Art Museum is beautiful! The location makes it spectacular!

GeniusofDespair is correct. Walking or driving to the new taxpayer financed museums is a dangerous ugly chore. In fact, that whole section of Miami is ugly. Why couldn't we get an amazing Central Park like space? Yet our Central Park would have been on a Bay?
