Quote of the Day: The Jackson Bond You Stupid Voters Approved. By Geniusofdespair

From the Miami Herald:

Commissioner Juan C. Zapata, who represents Southwest Miami-Dade, said he is convinced that politics will poison the process — even with an oversight board.

“How these monies get spent, where the bids get opened up, that’s now subject to politics,’’ he said. “If politics drives how we spend that money, you can rest assured that easily a big chunk of that money is not going to be spent in a wise way."

I wonder if Zapata feels the same way about the MDX extension to farmland owned by land speculators who finance campaigns.

WeKe wahhhh said...

I don't think he thinks anything that happens in his "WeKe" counts as inappropriate for the community.

Just another billion in debt. Nothing to worry about.

You mean "his district" where only HIS opinion matters (and those of DR Horton, Bercow, Parkland developers, the LBA, the rock mining groups and Krome Gold)! I think he's the male version of Lynda Bell with better communication skills because we hear him quite well in Kendall.

Miami-Dade voters: "But doesn't a bond mean that we don't pay for it?"

Zapata should have spoken against the scam more aggressively. Before the vote on Nov 5.

Don't worry, they will set up a "watchdog" group like the Citizens' Independent Transportation trust (CITT) that will ensure that all this money is spent wisely and accounted for.

I was really surprised how easily it passed. I guess a lot of people expect the free walk-in emergency room to be their main form of healthcare!

The same people that complain about taxes being too high voted yes for this bond. The problem in south Florida is not the politicians, its the voters. As long as the voters are dipshits, this place will be a craphole.

Off year election = low voter turnout. I will not take pity of those who did not vote when they complain about their property taxes increase.
