He is a one-termer. Florida can ill afford to have a senator who does not want the country to pay its bills, wants to destroy our economy, and has no concern for our role in the global economy. If he had his way the government would be shut down this morning, no one would be getting government checks, and 401ks would begin losing massive amounts of money. We will never forget his vote. We also need to see the votes of Fl members of the House of Representatives.

Thanks for sharing the house vote. Jeff Miller was the only member of the FL delegation to vote NO and we can't afford to have there. He is from the 1st district on the Gulf Coast in the Panhandle from Pensacola to Destin. There is a massive military presence in his district with Eglin AirForce Base.

People in his district irrespective of political party affiliation have a responsibility to the state, nation, and the world to bring him back home. Veterans, military employees at the base, government employees, military contractors related to the base, senior citizens who depend on social security checks, people who get paid from Medicare and Medicaid and those who receive services, and anyone with a 401k, should consider it their duty to make sure he is not elected.

Vary much so!

Yeh, if they re-elect him and agree with him that government is bad, maybe when the BRAC meets again, they need to take good look at reductions at that AirForce Base. If they believe government is spending too much, stop the spending right there at their homes. Relieve them of those military payrolls. No need to push our money on people who don't want it.

Re Anonymous: Actually 10 members of the Florida House delegation voted NO, not just Miller: DeSantis (Dist 6), Mica (7), Miller (1), Nugent (11), Posey(8), Radel (19), Rooney (17), Ross (15), Southerland (2), Yoho (3), and Young (13) didn't vote. They are all Republicans, of course. The Tea Party is alive and well in Florida, unfortunately.

Anonymous said...

Well, we need to make sure none of them are re-elected.

The problem is the northern part of the State. I remember reading something about redistricting. Those areas up in north Florida include a lot of the prison population in their constituent count so the number of actual voters are probably less then half the actual number of people included in the count. I guess that's how they keep getting re elected. I say we in South Florida need to stop sending our tax money up there and let their prison workforce pay for their population! That will never happen though it's a good thought.

Even with those districts, there are many people who are dependent or have relatives who are dependent on government spending. If we get a moderate republican, it's ok. Anybody except these people.

I am proud of his vote, the democratic congress has not passed a BUDGET in what seems forever! The Washington establishment has mortgaged the future of our children and grand children. You want universal healthcare, immigration reform, name your pet project....then pass a budget first and tell the American public how we are going to pay for it?

This should not be about republicans or democrats, it should be about being responsible and honest with the all of us.

So yes I am proud he voted NO and proud that 17 other Senators stood with him.

Now you can all start your hate responses.

Anonymous said...

There is no hate response. He can continue to have his views and opinions. We simply want him removed from office so he cannot hurt people in this community, state, country, and the world.

Anonymous said...

Who is hurting who, thanks to the vote, you, your children and their children just inherited $143,000 in tax liability?
It's all good though after February it will be $160,000, it's like a reverse 401K. This is the work of the community organizer who is making sure our communities are financially destroyed.

What you fail to understand is that we can grow this economy to not only deal with the deficit, but create a surplus. We have the capability. Obama is moving us forward and Clinton will build on the progress he makes. But to cost this country $25 billion for foolishness, and embarrass us in the world is unacceptable. He has got to go.

Allow me to share this anecdote:

I work in a professional capacity in a hospital in north Miami-Dade County. There are two individuals who recently married. The first one was artificially inseminated by carefully chosen donor sperm. The child is beautiful. The other partner also wished to give birth so they decided to choose the same donor to impregnate her so the children will be blood-related. They discuss these personal details with all staff, even at staff meetings. Neither one, although board-certified is proficient in English. The first one receives WIC (Women, Infant, Children nutrition assistance)(Mission is to support low-income women and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating) even though she earns a professional salary. The WIC program requires an absent father. Last week, before the start of a meeting, they were explaining how the second partner will soon receive WIC assistance.

The mother and grandmother of another staff member were recently approved for Section 8 housing. The staff member explained that since they didn't wish to be separated, they will both share one apartment and rent out the second. They both receive Food Stamps.

I hear these comments daily. How long will our country last with this entitlement mentality?

And please don't think these are crooks (of course they are). This is a sample of 80% of food stamp, public housing, meals programs, Medicaid and many other low-income programs.

The problem is not that American's can't grow the economy it's that Congress can't keep their hands off the profits (surplus) long enough to pay down any meaningful debt or deficit. So no - we will not be able to grow out of this issue and our children will be stuck with the debt.

"What you fail to understand" - "Obama is moving us forward" - "Clinton will build upon the progress he makes"

Really? Where is the progress? We have a blame Bush mentaility, that plays well in this forum. We have spent billions of dollars (which were borrowed) on Stimulus Plans. Where did that get us. We have grown the national debt by leaps and bounds. We rushed a healthcare policy through, along partisan lines (No game changing policy has ever passed congress that did no have wide bi-partisan support, not social security, not new deal policies, welfare reform, nothing).

The most basic concept each of conducts in our own home is to live within our means. What is going on in Congress is borrow to pay the debt, then borrow to pay the loan we used to pay the debt, then borrow to pay the interest on the loan we took out to pay the debt.

Folks that is like borrowing to payoff credit cards or worst the interest on credit cards. This is insanity. You all can try an blame Bush, Rubio, any other Republican you want.....but numbers dont lie.

Congress urgent needs term limits, balance budget requirements and a clear explanation on how programs will be paid and at what cost.

To the Anon above, while there are many crooks who take advantage of government programs, there are also many who are really needy. Monitoring and enforcement can easily get rid of those problems. But to take support from the truly needy to get rid of crooks, no. Catch them and send them to jail. People like you should report the fraud.

The problem is the republicans have a "little pie" concept of our economy with big pieces of the tiny pie for them, and hardly anything for anyone else. Democrats believe in the "gigantic pie" concept, believing that we can grow this economy on a very large scale, and everyone get some pie. One thinks on small, petty, little scales, and the other thinks on vast, immense, massive, extensive scales. And these different ways of thinking about our economy reveals themselves in everyday actions and decisions.

listen, we all know of people on both sides, committing fraud and getting away with it. My neighbor across the street is boasting how she got 'Disability Benefits', claiming she was in PAIN with back problems. How can you prove someone has pain? How much pain?
She drives around in a new Cadillac and it is disgusting. This is NOT an isolated case ...millions like her.
We need to take a hard look at all of these so-called "entitlements".
People are abusing the system!!!!!

Please tell me to whom the fraud should be reported.

I've contacted the local Food Stamp office. I was told there's nothing to be done about it. The person answering the phone actually said, "write a letter to the White House, honey!"

I have a friend who works for DCF; her recommendation: keep your mouth shut! Both those women have high jobs in the hospital.

Every elderly patient - each and every one - is on Medicaid (Until the 1970s called Public Welfare),
An on Food Stamps. They reached the US only a few years ago and have never worked a day in their lives. When interviewed as part of the regular intake process, they and their children (who drive new cars and tire designer bags) list the money they send overseas to relatives, as part of their expenses.

These people are not breaking the law. They know that upon arriving, they will be eligible for all out social services programs.

We need to think about replacing Rubio with a woman. Women played a big role in last night's vote.

Report fraud or you are complicit.

Although we know these 18 have to account, we also have to look at the Senate staff leaders who support them. While they have not taken an official oath of office to defend and protect the country as the members have, they too have a responsibility not only to the member, but to the country too. They should have played out every possible scenario, implications for the country, the economy, the world, and their member's political careers. After you have done all you could, some jobs you have to be prepared to walk away from. Eventually, you too will have to account for your actions.
