Why Do They Start Miami Dade County Budget Hearings at 5:30pm? By Geniusofdespair

Expect this meeting tonight to go WAAAYYY into the wee hours of the morning.  The County Chambers will be filled, you will have to wait downstairs watching a video screen sitting on uncomfortable folding chairs, unless you are important, and my guess is you aren't.  These kinds of meetings are torture for all concerned.  Think about sticking a fork in your arm instead. It would be a lot less painless. It wouldn't go on for hours: BAM! the fork hurts....now it is over.

Instead the droning on and on and on, OMG it is just awful. Especially Javier Souto. Get me a fork.

The fork will do as much good as going there. It will just leave you less angry.

This is a BCC trick pony they use to discourage citizens from attending. Well my friends and I are going home after work, eat rest, pack our snacks which will include a drink, sandwich, chips nabs and a pack of lifesavers and return to their meeting to wave our hands in the air like a Castro style meeting. Certainly, not a democracy.

Why at 5:30 pm? Because the average taxpayer needs to work for a living and can't afford to take time off during the day to attend a government meeting. It must be a nice life for those who can.

So have it all day for everyone.

I get off at . I will attend the meeting after completing my chores at home. I will leave my home in Palmetto Bay and catch the rail to this commissioners show just to see Lynda Bell who is going to be recalled.

It is actually State Law.. Budget hearings cannot begin before 5:30. The rational is that hopefully, most of us have jobs and responsibilities that make it difficult for us to attend government meetings starting at 9:30 am. It makes total sense to me, but, I have a job...

Heard Gimenez is running scared. He's afraid the Commission will fully fund the library system, save the librarians jobs, keep the reading programs and even give money to buy books. Imagine that!
