Mayor Cindy Lerner in France. By Geniusofdespair

Mayor of Pinecrest Cindy Lerner is in France for a week at the World Mayors Summit on Climate Change in Nantes France. She sent me this graphic with some good advice for us all.

Who is paying for the trip?? Is it the taxpayer??

If so, how dare a Mayor attend a Mayor's summit!!! Oh, its a Mayor's summit, and she is a Mayor.. I guess it is ok...

Its actually what Mayor's should do as the ambassadors to our community... It is part of the job, always has been, and always should be.. Deal with it!

What are you arguing with yourself?

No, just pointing out the hypocrisy... If this was another mayor who took a trip for the purposes of economic development (like that is not at least as important as the environment), their would have been 20 comments about who paid for the trip, or, why did the taxpayers pay for the trip, and all that jazz... In fact, you have several posts that address that very issue, and while you seem to be somewhat neutral on the subject (not always), the comments are not. I was illustrating the ridiculousness of that position by making my point above...

I don't know if the league of cities paid. Don't really know.

Mayors are ambassadors??? No business in France, that is ridiculous!

The entire trip was sponsored by ADEME , the French Agency for Environment and the EcoCity conference and world Mayors Summit itself. Not one penny spent by Pinecrest taxpayers!

Well Mayor Lerner,

I expect you will return with a number of suggestions for the Village of Pinecreast, including:

1) No single family residences above 1,500 sq/ft
2) No cars with more than 4 cylinders
3) Mandatory "lights-off" at 8 pm unless your home is fully powered by solar power
4) 1 shower every 4 days
5) No landscaping that requires a sprinkler system, unless it is utilizing reclaimed water

I wonder if Mayor Lerner would have traveled to the same conference if it was held in Apopka, fl.

From the minutes of the Pinecrest Village Council meeting of July 16, 2013:

VII. REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The mayor requested approval of an appropriation not to exceed $4,000 to cover travel expenses for her attending the Summit of Mayors and ECOCITY Summit. Councilmember McDonald made a motion approving the appropriation. The motion was seconded by Vice Mayor Cutler and adopted by a 3 – 2 voice vote. The vote was as follows: Councilmember McDonald, Vice Mayor Cutler and Mayor Lerner voting Yes; Councilmembers Corradino and Ross voting No.

This is another example of government abuse. Mayor Lerner has no business in France at taxpayers’ expense.

What at her objectives for her attendance? Visit the Eiffel Tower? Develop a sister city program in Canes?

This is a boondoggle and Mayor Lerner needs to be held accountable to the residents and taxpayers of the Village of Pinecrest.

Again, my point is that this is the sort of thing Mayors should be a part of. Dealing with economic, environmental, operational issues. Taking a look at how other Cities and Regions deal with modern problems. Reading about them is one thing, seeing them is different. Meeting with business leaders abroad, and selling Miami as a good place to open a business. That sort of thing. I figured the anti-everything types would come out of the woodwork. I suppose it comes out of jealousy and closed minds...

I I asked the council to approve the funds in the event they were not covered by the conference as a back up, it turned out the entire trip was paid for by the conference. I was invited to be a speaker on sustainability practices by american cities. As co chair of the Energy, Environmental committee of the Miami dade league of cities and a member of the National league of Cities Energy Environment committee, I have developed an expertise and have worked really hard to advance best practices throughout Miami Dade county and south Florida. Check the public records. The fact is there is , there are some honest elected officials and there are cities with no government abuse. Further, our Pinecrest mayor and council members serve without stipend or compensation, one of only 4 such cities in the county .

Can we please borrow you Cindy, to teach some of your learnings to the thoroughly dysfunctional backbiting, divisive, unmannered Village mayor and council of Palmetto Bay? We are in such a sad state of affairs, with an almost total mismanagement of our lovely village.

I'm still waiting on the what-I-did-on-my-summer-vacation report from Gimenez and a follow up list of actionalable items from Edmondson and Bell on their trips. Is there ever a report and also some sort of MBO report?

Thank you Bob Ross and Joe Corradino for seeing this is all total BS, and just an all expenses paid trip to France for CL! And Pinecrest residents have a lot of money. They want to go to France themselves, not pay for their MAYOR to go!!!! You want to be green? Keep it at home! Attend by video conference! Ridiculous abuse of power!!!
