Will SaveDade have a new mission: get rid of Lynda Bell? ... by gimleteye

Old adversaries, the gay rights group SAVE Dade, and The Christian Family Coalition are sparring over county commissioner Lynda Bell's successful effort to throttle a law that would have banned discrimination on the basis of gender or identity.

Eye On Miami has often lamented Bell's rise in District 8, replacing the most progressive member of the county commission for more than a decade, Katy Sorenson.

The damage commissioner Bell has done to human rights parallels her impacts on environmental regulations. But environmentalists are poorly organized on matters of politics. SAVE Dade, on the other hand, has been a proven political organization. The group is adept at countering the radical right in Florida's politically influential and most populous county. The Christian Family Coalition is a throw-back to the good old, bad days.

If SAVE Dade and its supporters are sufficiently engaged and angered by Commissioner Bell, it could target an out-of-tune politician for removal at the polls. SAVE Dade's engagement against Bell would would be very good news indeed.

Hopefully, this will be the beginning of her end as a Commissioner just like her riding in front of a Confederate flag in a Homestead parade was the lynchpin that lead to her defeat as Mayor. In the bigger picture beyond the issue at hand, this demonstrates once again her extreme and unyielding intolerance for anything or anyone contrary to her thoughts or political or religious philosophy or agenda. Interestingly, though, despite the fact that many in Homestead derogatorily believe she has a big set of brass balls tucked in those too tight polyester pants she normally wears, she does not have the 'nads to come out and say something to the effect of I don't approve or agree with the gay or transgender lifestyle and will do anything in my power, publicly and privately, to stop any recognition or protection for those who are. Instead she blithers on about being only one vote among 13 but she conveniently ignores her role in the committee meeting. (BTW, Madame Vice-chair, what does your sister think of your anti-gay stands?) I for one hope that those sympathetic to the stand of SAVE Dade will first get involved in helping the people of Homestead see the light about Bell and defeat her sock puppet husband in his quest to regain the Mayorship of Homesteadfor her highness.

Jeff Porter also running for mayor of Homestead lined the Sons of Confederacy up in the Veterans Day Parade and Lynda Bell was directly behind this group which she denied yet everyone on the parade route saw her.

It's amazing in this day an age, when a County Commissioner & a fringe freak show on the right (CFC) are somehow holier & more religious then the Pope. Tolerance must have walked out the door with this commission as well. I thank the sponsors and have to wonder what kind of "House of Cards" horse trading was going on behind the scenes. SAVE Dade, needs to really, truly save Dade by helping us rid the BCC of Lynda Bell!

“I have yet to find on a Vatican identity card the word ‘gay,’” he said. “They say there are some gay people here. I think that when we encounter a gay person, we must make the distinction between the fact of a person being gay and the fact of a lobby, because lobbies are not good. They are bad. If a person is gay and seeks the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge that person?”

Bell is a right-wing whack-job that is completely out of step with her district. She does not represent the voters of her district and only pursues her bizarre agenda: pink slime, front-yard chain link fences, anti-gay legislation, etc. She is the mother of the Confederate Flag.

We must organize a grassroots campaign and rid ourselves of this disease.

No more Bells.

There's an election in November 2014. A group should start working on recruiting a candidate to run against her. Even though Gene Flinn is an EOM favorite, his time has passed. He ran a crappy campaign in 2010 and let himself get taken to the woodshed. If the progressive community wants to get rid of her, find someone better who can raise about $250,000 in campaign funds, who can reach out to the different parts of the community. If you can't, or won't, stop bitching about it. I live in District 8. I vote here. Most of you who are upset with Bell don't. If you're not willing to put your money where you mouths are, by donating the maximum allowable amout permitted by law, STFU!
