The one political measure in which I agree with Roger Stone: legalize medical marijuana ... by gimleteye

For his entire career, Roger Stone has been one of the behind-the-scenes GOP operatives who helped push the nation so far to the right, that even centrist positions are expressions of a divided America.

Now Mr. Stone is apparently a libertarian, and as a libertarian had been contemplating a run for governor. In the Miami Herald, Stone writes he has decided not to run, "I plan to channel my efforts toward the 2014 Constitutional Amendment to allow doctors to prescribe medicinal marijuana for those who are suffering or dying. My own father died a horrific death from bone cancer just eight weeks ago. I watched as the poisonous drugs they gave my father to ease his pain destroyed his quality of life and did more harm than good. I am convinced medicinal marijuana would have helped my father. Those in the Florida Legislature who would not allow even a hearing on medicinal marijuana should be ashamed of themselves."

On this point I agree. Moreover, why shouldn't our tax revenues be supplemented instead of this fruitless expense of chasing down pot growers and users? Truth be told, Stone and his lamentable work as a GOP operative bear a heavy portion of blame for the radical, right wing policies that have denied Florida even a ray of sunshine to progressive policies like easing the suffering of cancer patients through marijuana. Well, enough of that. I will be supporting any constitutional amendment that legalizes marijuana in Florida.

Roger Stone has decades of history as one of the sleaziest lobbyists and behind-the-scenes back room manipulators of the political process. Who can forget Roger Stone helping to steal the Presidential Election from Al Gore and handing it to the evil George Bush? Our 10+ year debacle in Iraq was a result of Roger Stone's "work". A million Iraqi's have been slaughtered thanks to Roger Stone.

Gimleteye and Stone agreeing! The benefits of marijuana are well known and largely suppressed by big Pharma. It is good that Roger Stone can use his gravitas to get the message out. Stone was also the only gubernatorial contender that actively endorsed repealing the ban Florida has on gay marriage equality. Some of Stone's vocal opponents are sore losers and reinforce the statement he made why he withdrew from consideration in the race.

Amateur political pundits aside, Roger Stone makes an important point about the often ignored medical properties of cannabis. There is actually literature that shows it to have active anti-cancer properties but you would never see it published in an environment that favors the medical establishment. Florida isn't quite ready yet for a forward thinking governor like Stone would make.

Roger Stone has a 30+ year history of being a creep. He has been a hired (political) hitman for various schemes that only benefit his clients and never the public. If Stone is in favor of marijuana it must be because someone is paying him.

Another example of a politician being motivated by his own personal needs. Where was he when our relatives died a slow painful death? Tending to his own agenda, of course, not the needs of the people.

Hey, for whatever reason, Stone is on board. Let him rip.
It's great to have one more voice in favor of legalization.

Roger Stone's last "cause" was finding dates for he and his wife on AdultFriendFinder.com. Look it up. 1993 or 1994.

Roger Stone was a hired gun paid by Bush fanatics who pressured Miami-Dade Elections staff to favor Bush over Gore.
