Just vote no and don't be fooled by the promise of jobs. That is the old standby -- they mentioned it at least 3 times in this flier. "Local" jobs right. I have a bridge I can sell you if you believe that one. Miami First, that paid for the flyer is actually support for hire H.T. Smith, Ed Torgas and Mike Dee (the mouth piece for the
Note that Broward County, although poised to make plenty of bucks if this passes, did not submit to this deal and didn't do anything -- but they will still reap the benefits. Only our sleazy County Commission agreed to let it go foward. Vote NO. Do not punch 90 on May 14th.

The promise of jobs is the oldest trick in the book. I heard they couldn't even promise local jobs and most of the part-time jobs you have to be bi-lingual to get them.
This makes me laugh (or cry). Let's say Ross/Dolphins end up spending $10-15 million for this charade. That would include greasing the Miami Dade Rep's/PAC's and candidates directly at all levels locally and throughout the State Senate/House. Then let's say Tallahassee approves the sales tax rebate of $90 million of real hard earned Florida tax payer money - which WILL NOT BE on the ballot in May of which, by the way, those funds can be used for other purposed like education - The Dolphins just made a 800-900% profit in six months time. That's not a typo, do the math.
Then, let's say the idiot's in the State Legislator approve the tourist tax increases, which they will do because that's not a mystery AND if the voters vote NO they still made a ponzi schemer's dream investment to begin with! Here's a note to all the Tea Party GOPer's in Tallahassee, burn your Tea Party patriot card now if you vote yes to this corporate welfare you so vehemently oppose, except if there's campaign cash tied to it! It would be the most hypocritical thing to do among a very lengthy list, which is why the GOPer's are losing numbers Nationwide, especially Florida.
This will be Gimenez's Marlin's as someone wrote earlier and he deserves it. The strong mayor's crown has turned in to a thorny rose. He's been hanging out with too many "yes" men and not enough with the people who trusted him to do the right thing. Shame on this "deal" which is not bargain to anyone but the Dolphins/Ross & their celebutant investors who could all write checks individually to pay for this pig!
Have they started mailing out absentee ballots yet? I am anxiously waiting on mine so I can quickly say no and get it back in.
I agree with everything you saying about the bad deal for the tax payers and the small investment for a large return for Steve Ross. Having said that...to blame the Republicans and the Tea Party is out of bounds! The Dade County Republican Party does NOT support this bad Bill...and the Bill's sponsor in the Senate is a Democrat! Finally in committee after committee Democrats have supported this terrible idea. Please lets agree to vote NO on May 14 and take the partisanship out of the background story.
Thanks
I hope you're right last anon. The only way any of this passes is through the GOP majority in both the senate & house. Unfortunately, if it passes, they did it with help from the Dem's but it will be on the GOP.
Agree. Don't make this about the parties.
I watched Barreto on the news this morning, probably from last night, discussing the Super Bowl bid and the NY meeting. If there's taxpayer money involved, he seems to be on the top of the recipient list. To Barreto: Can we (global) get our $50 million back from US Century first? I hope the voters vote NO. I hope the State Legislature kills both measures to save us from some stupid voters who will be bused in to vote Yes or the AB campaigns beginning which won't be prosecuted! Note to these PR firms: Stop promising 'jobs" which no one can ever prove or disprove. It's irritating. Just because it's being repeated doesn't mean it's true!
I am voting no. Let Ross, etal pay for this.
I agree that the former officers and directors of us century should pay.
I would prefer Barreto, Pino, et al all be in jail first for their US Century Bank of urban sprawl development/county hall employees! It's amazing how the media doesn't call Barreto out on all his past financial/urban sprawl development dealings, but they won't because it's not in the script!
A lot of people who now have jobs won't have them shortly with the sequester kicking in. We are going to need every penny of our tax money. How can the NFL prey on one of the poorest areas in the country, particularly at a time when we are bracing for a big financial hit in federal money?
I intend to vote NO!!!
Vote No. No to welfare for billionaires.
Let's me serious, who can afford 2-4 tickets to a Super Bowl plus parking, maybe $5,000?
Tell your friends to vote No.
I'm gonna vote no (probably). But to answer anon above about who can afford tickets to the Super Bowl?
Lots of people - the games are sold out - and it's not local people who buy them. It's people who live elsewhere and stay at hotels and rent cars and eat out at restaurants while they're here.
My friend who works at a car rental counter near MIA is trying to get me to vote yes. Events like these mean lots of money for local people.
Let all the lobbyists who are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to put horrible people in office help Billionaire Ross. Your friends car rental place is most probably spending big buck in Tallahassee to get laws that favor them. Why should be bail out the scum? They work against us all the time. Let them donate to Ross if it is so important to them.
Genius,
I completely understand your response. and I'm sure his company is spending on lobbyists.
But, when his location is busy, he gets called in for extra shifts and makes extra money as do many of his co-workers.
He lives here, spends his paycheck locally.
All of these big corporations that we always rail against all have local employees and workers that also are employed because of them.
I know the whole trickle down economy theory is bogus but at the same point, there are local Miami people who do benefit - whether its people collecting tickets at gate, concession stand workers, hotel valets, or car rental agents. And that's why I'm slightly wavering on my vote.
You can be a rube for a billionaire with that thin argument. We will still get Superbowls because if we don't pony up, the billionaire can raise the money elsewhere. He can sell some of his interest in the team and stadium. Your argument is lame. Broward county didn't bite for a reason. You sound like a shill to me.
Wish I were a billionaire. But seriously, not a shill. Just my personal opinion that while I hate what's going on with the corporate welfare I can see benefits from the stadium improvements for our area.
I also was under the understanding that this was a new tax, using hotels taxes, so it's not coming out of my pocket.
Plus, i do have UM tickets so it'll be nice to sit in the shade.
I guess maybe I'm selfish, but I just don't see a real negative for me if we vote yes on this.
Yes you are selfish. You will get your improvements without voting yes. They will find another way to fund them if we say no.
