Former County Commissioner Joe Martinez is threatening to run against U.S. Rep. Joe Garcia. By Geniusofdespair

Ugh. I though we were rid of this guy. This gets on the barf meter as a 4.

Dusting off his 2012 stunning loss to Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Joe got 30% of the vote to Gimenez's 54%, Joe Martinez has told the press that he intends to run against U.S. Rep Joe Garcia. Joe Garcia won the race against bad boy Republican David Rivera in Novemeber by ten percentage points. Garcia was sworn in Jan. 3rd. Around January 11th Cutler Bay Mayor Ed MacDougall said he would run. Now we have Joe Martinez. Republicans are desperate to regain that seat.

In the usual Martinez manner of expressing puffery about his self-importance, he took credit for running the ENTIRE County saying that during both the strong mayor campaign and Alvarez's ouster through recall, that he (Martinez) had to pick up the slack for Mayor Alvarez. Gimme a break, that is a stretch!

As I wrote on my facebook page this morning - Congratulations to Joe Garcia in his 2014 re election!

I laughed so hard I was crying!

In any event, I wish I could find the "I'm not a crook" video, it's disappeared from the local CBS archives or I'm not doing the right search!

I'd love to see the broadcast again, all over the place! That and so much more.

It is gone. I have asked Jim DeFede for it. It was from his broadcast.

Call Jim see if he like you better than me. I would give anything to have that again. Maybe I can find it in the County archives. No. None of you bother to watch my videos so why should I do all that work.

LOL LOL LOL on all counts!

Does anyone find it ironic that Martinez can't (or won't) find a job in the private sector? He should really consider moving to the DR and hang there for a while. He really doesn't need to work with his pension anyway. I guess his ego of he knows best just won't let him..........

What a nightmare he is and was and will always be! May all his donors go broke financing his campaign with a net gain of zero which are his chances of beating ANYONE including my Cat for Congress especially a District which includes the Everglades & a whole bunch of Coral Reef & so much more he spent a career destroying! OMFG, I just cannot believe this article!

I like Ed MacDougal and would support him for congress. He's been a good mayor, pretty solid and hasn't let the Hillbilly Bell taint Cutler Bay, which has probably been a second full time job. And, at least he lives in the District, unlike Garcia who lives all the way in Miami Beach, which might as well be a whole other County when you compare it to the congressional district.

Ed fan: come on. This is a NATIONAL OFFICE. They aren't there to fix potholes. You don't even know Ed's stance on national issues and you are supporting him?

That IS the bottom line.

Joe Martinez supported the Marlins and their scam which, with Joe's help, is diverting over $3 BILLION from the taxpayers. Stay retired Joe.

Hey MacDougal fan. Sorry to break it to you but your boy Ed does not live in the district either. Gongressional seat 26 runs west of US 1. Cutler Bay is east of US 1.

I think to run for congressman, you must reside in the state, but not the district.

No shit. Really? I think we all know that. The comment was to the Ed supporter who was criticizing Garcia for not living in the district when his boy doesn't either. That was all.

I think Garcia is a sleazy character. It is amazing that he continues to face opponents that are even sleazier than him. What a lucky dog!

Joe Martinez is polling high in his district, inspite of having Congressman Garcia in office.

In short, regardless of your appreciation of dissatisfaction with Joe Martinez it does not matter. Most of these anti Martinez posts are from one or 2 people and do not live in the district.

If he raises the money ( which I believe he cannot) he will give Garcia a run for his money.

Stay tuned. BTW, I am not a Martinez fan, just saw the poll....

Polling high? I want to have whatever youre drinking. Little Joe lost most of his district to Gimenez. Maybe the poll was done in homestead.

Blah! These former county commissioners don't give up.. I'm a republican and I would never vote for this little guy with little____ and no balls.

It's the same thing with Hawkins being part of the Jackson't board... what the hell is that? Oh yea that's right! Terry Murphy is a consultant for the union and since he cannot bring VNS, he picked his former boss to secure votes... Those are the only two who would pay any attention to him! Hahaha...

Going back to GI Joe, isn't it funny that all these "former" politicians always end up being either Public Relations or Government Consultants? That translates to LOBBYING!!!

To "the Poll" person........Give me a break! Have you actually looked at how the voting went in Dist. 26? These voters, especially in the Keys and Redland will not support Martinez. The numbers won't work for him no matter how much "spin" you want to give a poll! They must have polled an area near SW 8th to get any positives for Joe M!

Joe "Mr. Enron" Garcia is a disgrace, Mr. David "I'm not under Fed Investigation" Rivera was just a worse one. Mr. Joe "I'm not a crook" Martinez will spiral in to no man's land in an election down here! Ed MacDougal is a nice guy, don't how he will do on the National level.

In any event, I truly hope a decent candidate appears on the radar over the next year to unseat Joe Garcia, whether it be a Dem or GOPer!

This is an even bigger joke than Marquito’s group of dimwits
“building the brand” and the plan to “achieve greatness”... ¡LOL! ¡Ha, ha, ha! ¡Begorra! ¡Holy cow! What are the Republicans smoking!

Joe Martinez is another low IQ Miami-Dade County pol. He is easily influenced by even small campaign contributions. Notice how little he got from the Marlins? Even the billboard creeps could buy him cheap.

What do you mean "Mac" hasn't let Bell taint Cutler Bay? He's standing next to her as much as possible. He's part of her "support" in South Dade. He's also a strong contributor to the South Dade Matters blog that grinds so many of the people who live in the area into the ground. As much as he continues to say that he doesn't involve himself in other municipalities' politics, he always has something to say about their politics or the leaders. If he's elected, it will be another vindictive regime.

I glanced at the South Dade Matters blog. What's noticeably absent, just about every unincorporated area in South Dade! Does Richmond Height & Perrine not count? What about Kendall & Redland....On the south east side - what about Goulds & Princeton? Naranja & Leisure City?

It's pretty clear only incorporated areas are included in South Dade Matters, which should be renamed - incorporated areas, especially Palmetto Bay politics, in South Dade Matter because at the BCC level and as long as the useless Lynda Bell is the Dist. 8 Commissioner, not only is that all she cares about while most of the unincorporated areas in South Dade are ignored or paved over or rock mined with her "yes" votes. Moss represent Richmond Heights & Perrine and I think portions of Redland & Kendall, though I'm not sure how much after redistricting. He's been pretty decent but approved the Dolphin deal, which is another huge negative!

Getting back to Martinez though, his self controlled Community Council 11 ran counter to Moss's District 9 area, which in itself was weird.

I will not support any local candidate for any County seat who doesn't live in or know the unincorporated areas -AND support them.

As to Congress, it's just seat shopping by opportunists who cannot get elected in their own home turf, which is why they seek election - allowable by law - in another District where their bad deeds aren't known!

Martinez would be on top of that list and I will make it my mission to let people in South Dade (the one's not in the incorporated areas and who vote in 26) know! Garcia is no prize eithe
