Who Will Run Against Bad Governor Rick Scott? By Geniusofdespair

Dan Gelber, Charlie Crist and Alex Sink

Gimleteye was speculating about Democratic chances in the Florida Governor's race this week and Jim DeFede was doing the same on his Sunday morning Channel 4 TV show.

Dan Gelber was Jim DeFede's guest. Jim asked Dan if he was running. Gelber said he didn't know yet. Gelber and DeFede only brought up two other prospects. Gelber said that Alex Sink was the best known Democrat in the State. DeFede mentioned Crist saying is that the best the Democrats can do, a former Republican. Gelber jumped to his defense saying he always got along with him when he was a State Senator. I am inclined to believe this is our pool of choice. I think Sink's banking background sunk her and will again. Somehow the Republicans turned her incredible success into a liability and Sink could not escape from guilt by association. It was pretty incredible to watch Rick Scott, who pleaded the fifth amendment 75 times, characterize Sink as a pariah in numerous TV spots (Scott put $60 million of his own money against her). The fact that she couldn't combat the onslaught makes me think she will not be viable this time around. Of the three, Gelber has the least skeletons in his closet, but Crist has the name recognition, the tan and the sparkling white teeth. The questions remains, will Jim Greer tarnish Crist and afford Scott the win?

Does Nan Rich, Katy Sorenson or Kristen Jacobs have a chance?

Alex Sink has the best shot. No one will vote for effeminate flip flopper Crist. Gelber is smart but has no charisma and is perhaps "too ethnic." Isn't there any other choice than 3 losers who were crushed in their last election attempt?

Stop saying that Rubio CRUSHED anyone he didn't. He had less than 50% of the vote.

If you add Crist and Meek's numbers the race would NOT been Rubio's win. The unfortunate thing was that Dem's divided up their vote between Crist and Meek.

If it were a local race, there would have had to be a runoff between Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio.

Scott will annihilate Crist with ads about his flip flops and his close relationship with the disgraced state chairman Gilchrist. Crist will be easily painted as someone who cannot be trusted.

There has to be someone else with statewide stature.

I meant GREER not Gilchrist. LOL!

Crist got less than 30% of the vote in the race against Rubio.

Even if you add Crist's and Meek's votes together, they did not receive a majority of votes in the 2010 race.

The notion that Crist will keep all the votes he received as an Independent PLUS every vote Meek received PLUS other votes to bring him over 50% is a pathetic pipedream.

When 49.9% vote against you, it is not a CRUSHING defeat.

crist is a republican opportunist. why would anyone believe the zebra has changed his stripes? I am a democrat who voted for sink, meek, and gelber. i would never vote for republican crist so cross me out of that theory.

We need to look at some new models. We want new visions, new leadership, and a new tomorrow. It will be a shoe-in for whoever runs against Scott.

Has Bob Graham been mentoring anyone?

It will not be a shoe-in for anyone running against Scott. He invoked the 5th amendment 75 times and STILL he won.

In addition to that, he now has many, many negatives working against him now with his performance record. Lots of people who voted for him now seriously regret that they did and will not vote for him again. For lots of people it will be anybody but Scott.

I say Braman.

Gotta laugh at all the Dems who hammered Romney for being a flip-flopper who are now supporting Crist. At least Romney stuck to one party. This would be Charlie's third party in as many years.

Independent is not a party.

It will be interesting to say the least. I don't think anyone from South Florida could win right now unless it was on the GOP side; someone running in a primary against Scott. This States voters scare me and are totally unpredictable. I think Scott got elected because Sink just sank her campaign! I would not support her again. I don't know Jacobs and I would support Rich or Sorenson but doubt either will run. Gelber I'd vote for too. I just know that North & Central Florida won't support him though.

Gelber needs to do a lot of political work to see what he can get in central and northern FL. There may be more possibilities than is evident on the surface. Once he has done his work with the brokers, he will be in a better position to evaluate a run. The economic situation in that region of the state is really bad. Without tax money from So. FL many would not be able to make it. Missing the transit money had a major financial impact Central FL. Financially, they have got to be brought into the 21st century. So there is much potential there that should be explored.

I do not think any one mentioned is able to fight hard enough to win. We must have a fighter to beat all the money that will be thrown against us.

I have my anyone but Scott bumper sticker all ready to go. We don't have any dems in this state that are strong leaders and who look a little mean?

Anonymous said...

They can be strong and mean, but they must be concerned about people and hold dear basic democratic values. We learned a lot with this last election. All the money in the world won't buy an election when the voters are engaged and have made up their minds.

Alex Sink seems too manly to me. Charlie Crist seems too womanly. Gelber seems just right.

" The next FL Governor will come out of one of our cities," so said Former Sen and former Gov Bob Graham, when I discussed the issue with him earlier this year. he named Mayors Buddy Dyer,Orlando, Mayor Jack Seiler Ft Lauderdale, Pam Iorio Tampa. Dan Gelber should run again for Attorney General, that is where he belongs.

Any Democrat running for governor will be running as an outsider. Scott will be so badly weakened by 2014 that Gelber could run and win, even as a Jew from South Florida. Give him the chance (and funding) to get infront of voters. He can do it. He should do it.

Alex Sink, PLEASE STAY HOME. You and the North Florida Dems had your chance (repeatedly!) and blew it.

Two words: Misogyny and homophobia.

If it is going to be one of these Mayors, we need to make sure they have what they need and lots of pre-election help.

Anonymous said...

You underestimate Crist's likability. Sure the guy's an opportunist but he's no "cold mean hearted unfeeling' Mitt Romney. If you want someone pure, good luck. Crist would do just find against slick rick.

Someone needs to start the polling.

No Alex Sink please. I don't appreciate how she threw our president under the bus after she lost.

If you are looking for substance, Crist is NOT your man. He is as fluid as they come depending upon the audience. But on the other hand, the voters have proven they prefer flash and empty promise over substance and true vision.

If we go with a Mayor, Crist will need to sit this out. We don't need a split. We need someone everyone feels comfortable voting for- Democrats, Independents, and Republicans. We need to take no risks in kicking Scott out. The world needs to understand our resolve to rid ourselves of him.
