Miami Dade County Commission Election of New Chair on Agenda Today. By Geniusofdespair

Sally Heyman, Rebeca Sosa & Javier Souto.
The County Commission will be electing a new Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson today. Good news, Joe Martinez is finally gone for good never to be chair again (he was twice). The bad news, Lynda Bell, Pepe Diaz and Barbara Jordan are probably in the running.

My feelings are, Sally Heyman should be chair. There hasn't been a white, non-Hispanic since Gwen Margolis over a decade ago.  I think that Audrey Edmonson would want to be chair as she is now the Vice Chair. Would anyone vote for her? I would, but I think Commissioners find her prickly. If there is to be a Hispanic I would hope that Rebeca Sosa is chosen.  If I had a say, I would choose Souto during the secret ballot portion. He would drive all the Commissioners to drink and all meetings would last about 22 hours. The County Commission would self-destruct under Javier Souto.

Watch the excitement unfold about 2:30 or 3pm. Who do you think will get the nod of their fellow Commissioners?

3:57 pm It is between Rebeca Sosa (Zapata nomination) and Barbara Jordan (Moss nomination). I expect Sosa to win. 4:08pm Vote is in: Sosa is the chair with 7 votes. Jordan got 6.  The Miami Herald said:

"The chairmanship race — which was unusually wide open going into Tuesday’s meeting — came down to Sosa, of West Miami, and Jordan, of Miami Gardens. Sosa won with a 7-6 vote, backed by Bell, Bovo and Zapata, and Commissioners Jose “Pepe” Diaz, Sally Heyman and Javier Souto. Barreiro, Edmonson, Moss, and Suarez, and Commissioner Jean Monestime, voted for Jordan. Sosa and Jordan voted for themselves."

The Herald's Patricia Mazzei said the Commissioners voting for Bell, over Heyman, for Vice Chair of the Commission were: Sosa, Suarez, Bell, Souto, Zapata, Diaz and Bovo. The only Hispanic to vote for Heyman was Barreiro.  At least he did something right for once.

There is no question. Xavier Suarez wants the slot. He is after a bigger role. He was thinking of running for Mayor against Gimenez.

Not Bell. How about Juan Zapata?

I love the Souto suggestion. It's the best way to implode the BCC in it's entirety and I'd wager through perhaps 2 or 3 BCC meetings. We'd possibly have a new BCC because he'd cause some to either enter rehab or go on reality TV as "career politicians go insane"!

i believe Sosa, may get the chairmanship. but we shall see.

Zapata, its his swearing in today, doubt the commissioners will vote to make a newbie chair.

as for Suarez, thats a maybe since he did want to run for mayor against Gimenez and his son Francis is running for City of Miami Mayor against incumbent Tomas Regalado and Frank Carollo.

It's between Sosa and Edmonson and it's a coin-flip as of this morning.

Was the lady in the pink transparent dress Joanna Faddis?

I didn't watch the meeting in realtime, but I will now definitely check out the replay. If you can tell me at what time you saw the sexy outfit, I would appreciate it.

P.S. No, the county does not have a dress code.

I obsarved the "sexy" outfit in person.

It was a hot outfit. she is the lady you talking about.

By the way, everyday she comes up with a dress than I will not wear at home.

Does Bell and the COS see this!!!

Two years of 'Dis' and 'Dat' is probably better than "through the chair". The Republican control of the County is solid (Gimenez-Sosa-Bell).

Easy predictions for 2013-2014: no rate adjustments to fix the Water and Sewer system; Migoya will have free rein to privatize Jackson; environmental regulation will be completely gutted; and more layoffs after Lopez-Cantero (another Republican) lowers the tax rolls.

I cannot think of one reason why Sally Heyman should be Chair. Because she is not Hispanic and not Black? No one knows what she is anymore. She was once a Democrat, but has completely sold herself to the Republican cabal that controls the County. She routinely votes against working people. She is incomprehensible in her communications. Please tell me one thing she has done for humanity in the past ten years that warrants praise.

Heyman is psychotic, and she has been for years. There is nothing - NOTHING - that qualifies her for commissioner, let alone Chair.

Crazy is a qualification to become a commissioner. Are you saying Bell is saner than Heyman? Close call.
