Jimmy Morales...on the move. By Geniusofdespair

Jimmy Morales at 11/08 County Commission Meeting
Former County Commissioner (and former County Mayor Candidate) Jimmy Morales has submitted an application to become City Manager of Miami Beach. Miami Beach Activist Frank DelVecchio said of Jimmy:
In his eight years as a county commissioner he established a reputation as a reformer, sponsoring legislation that created the Ethics Commission and the Office of Commission Auditor.  At his core he is dedicated to the integrity of public service.

Jimmy, a Miami Beach native with a compelling personal story, prestigious academic and professional qualifications, wide experience in government, and an unblemished record of integrity, can meet the challenges we face with no learning curve to overcome.
I concur. I always like Morales and think he will do a great job.

Read about Morales' ethics code violations. He is lucky he didn't serve jail time for his financial shenanigans during the 2004 campaign.

Nice pay 250 fine and get away with over half a million. Good luck Miami Beach with this retread.

He had a $580,081 discrepency and the fine is $250. No wonder everyone rags on the Ethics Commission. That isn't even a slap on the hand. That is a pat on the back.

I thought very highly of Jimmy as a Commissioner. I will never take away his good work on the BCC.

After he left though, I think he fell in to a weird black hole of representing municipalities on a whole bunch of issues at the BCC level which I didn't like or agree with.

Even putting that aside because everyone has to earn a living even if he probably had to hold his nose doing it.

What I won't put aside is the ethics issue where I've seen far less punished far greater. He seemed to get a slap on the writ and walk away.

With all the corruption problems Miami Beach has had, I don't think it is in their best interest to re vamp the City by hiring someone with an ethics violations......Appearances are everything sometimes.

Here is the full audit of Jimmy Morales' campaign finance violations. Not such a great guy in my book.

The $250 penalty is a joke and an insult to people who want ethical government. It was part of former Ethics Director Meyers' dumb theory that the shame of an unethical finding was a sufficient deterrent for most politicians.

"An unblemished record of integrity?"

Huh?

I volunteered for his mayoral campaign out of his little Havana campaign headquarters. I quit when I learned he was using an illegal third party group to pay workers. That scandal was in all the newspapers. Remember?

I agree - he was one of the most reasonable commissioners - is smart and generally a nice guy.

It's truly amazing how low the bar has been set to run for office.

Over zealous campaign workers can pull a candidate into risky behavior. Who knows what Morales knew at the time.

He surely will. Way to go Morales!

Mr. Morales has great Morals. He is a grad of Miami Beach Senior High School that went to Harvard and Harvard Law School on scholarship.

I think the City of Miami Beach needs a local that is not influenced by MONEY to try and reign in the corruption within out little town, that the Rich and Aimless consider a playground.

Best of luck to him and G
