Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Sinks To New Low ... by gimleteye
The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce (that once failed to supervise its own book keepers who ran off with the bank account) simply cannot get it right. By whatever conception the "free market" best provides for the public good, the Chamber defies that logic. Now the Chamber shoots Miami in the foot by "endorsing" casinos despite considerable dissent among business leaders. Those who oppose casinos in Miami have facts on their side. It's a shame, but just another notch in the Chamber's super-wide, fat belt including, most recently, Chamber opposition to Florida Hometown Democracy. Casinos are a scavenger economic activity. There are enough scavengers to make a meal of Florida without introducing a new power base for corruption.

We are at the fork in the road of Miami's future. This needs to be fought with every fiber of our being.

You are both right! But how can we fight it? Don't the people see and/or understand what is happening?
But to think the Chamber would even think of endorsing gambling when it is known that it will stifle what business we have left in Miami, not to mention the culture that will suffer, is frightening.
They know that with gambling, support businesses will flow into the city and they want those people to pour money into the Chamber, which they will. Just watch. They will be the best pals of each other and the rest of us will just have to stand quietly as we share the crumbs they will throw us.
Miami will never be anything more than a second class city. There is no way I can continue to live here, so I will lease my house and get the hell out of this pittiful place. For years I have done my share of trying and now realize I have just wasted my time. Trying to reason with a county that do not vote and politicians who are corrupt is non-productive, so I will follow the advice of my family and get out as fast as I can.
Miami will soon become dead to me.
We beat the Homestead airport and we can beat this. People really dug in and realized it was the Alamo. The people can stop this, too. Have faith!
Never give up! You might not always win but you can't stop trying.
Wow, Eye On Miami would seem to be a little bias here. I must disagree and say that my personal research says that the resort initiative will be good for Miami and the state. Of course there are many politicians grandstanding over the bill in the legislature, but what is wrong with the idea of letting the people vote on the matter? Is this not still America?
I can not believe the people who are for casinos When I was a little boy fresh from WW2 I got a job fixing slot machines in casinos. I was to set them up so that those machines located where they would attract people paid off well and the other machines only would hit now and then. As I got older I kept advancing through the industry to where I kept charge of all the money that came in. It was in that position that I learned that certain people were given money under the table to let
things go nn sucking the money from the suckers that spent their money in casinos. At this point a knew enough to quit being part of the robbing of the public. Very few people came out ahead and they generaly lost it later. It is the worst thing we can let in our CITY. everybody must fight them.
