Does Michael Jordan really live in Kendall? by gimleteye

It caught my attention over the weekend that Michael Jordan's new spouse, Yvette Prieto, lives in Miami. But do the newly weds really live in Kendall, as Fox News Latino reports?  I think it can't be true. Don't all the rich, former pro stars live in gated communities in Weston or Coconut Grove? Until now, Kendall's most famous former pro athlete was O.J. Simpson. Once-- about fifteen years ago-- I was in my car dropping a child off at school in South Miami and watched O.J. blow through in quick succession, first, a stop sign held by a school crossing guard and then a stop light on Red Road. He was in a hurry to his destination. I haven't seen Michael Jordan on the road, or at Publix, or at the Container Store measuring the size of trays to fit in drawers. But, West Dade? Could it be that the man who soared over the NBA gets stuck in Kendall traffic just like the rest of us?

As first reported by The Palm Beach Post, it seems Michael Jordan and his 30 year-old Cuban-American beau Yvette Prieto have indeed bought a 3-bedroom house together in Kendall for $281,000. - Miami New Times

Why on earth would he even consider living HERE? Oh, wait, his former wife probably kept the HUGE mansion they built. If I see him around, which I highly doubt, I will attempt to shake his hand as the greatest Basketball player, but otherwise, he sucks! (he obviously had a great lawyer/advisor with the Nike stuff as well)!

Why would he consider living here? For the same reason most of us who live in Miami-Dade, including Kendall with all the traffic problems, live here. Because we like it here. If you don't like it, there are 49 other states and a million other cities where you can move.

Yeah, but we are talking about KENDALL Grillo - not Miami Dade county.

I played some one on one with him this weekend.
Jordan won 11-3.
He's now 5 feet 7 inches.
Must be the shoes.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense. Kendall?? Atleast try Brickell or Coral Gables. Then again, his ex-wife did rake in about $200 million.

Or perhaps this has something to do with the rumored group of high-profile, professional athletes who are investing in certain South Florida properties. What about the house's proximity to the proposed Kendall Town Center DRI, General Growth's emergence from Chapter 11 and the Howard Hughes Corporation?

What was Magic Johnson's return when he invested in the Downtown Dadeland project? .... January 14, 2004. Fund plans 'Magic' in Downtown Dadeland An urban-oriented real estate fund run in part by former NBA star Earvin "Magic" Johnson said it will take an equity position in Downtown Dadeland, the mixed-use project under construction across from Dadeland Mall in Miami. The fund, the Canyon-Johnson Urban Fund, is a joint venture between California-based Canyon Capital Realty Advisors and Johnson's Johnson Development Corp. The group's local partner is Miami-based Gulfside Development. Neither company gave financial information as to their agreement. Unlike the fund's usual, urban-repositioning projects, Downtown Dadeland Condos is on the site of a former Cadillac dealership and is being built to become a downtown, not a remodeled one. The project is to include 416 condominium residences and 125,000 square feet of retail space in seven clustered, low-rise buildings. Backers said the project is more than 80 percent sold, with condos ranging in price from the mid-$100,000's to the low $500,000's, including studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units. "We at Gulfside Development are extremely proud of our agreement with Canyon-Johnson Urban Fund," said Jackson Ward and Stefan Johansson, Gulfside co-principals. "We share in their vision of furthering the development of urban markets and look forward to working with them in urban redevelopment projects throughout other markets with which Gulfside Development is involved." Bobby Turner, co-managing partner of the Canyon-Johnson Fund, said Downtown Dadeland meets Canyon-Johnson's goal to provide equity capital for urban redevelopment."We looked at numerous opportunities throughout the state and are extremely confident that Gulfside Development is the appropriate partner, and Downtown Dadeland the appropriate project through which we will enter the Florida market," Turner said.

I have lived in Kendall most of my live and, even with the bumper to bumper traffic on Kendall Drive and other miriad of problems, I don't think I would trade it for anywhere else in the county.

In his more modest days, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson used to live in West Kendall. Saw him at Chicken Kitchen on 107 and Kendall Drive a few times. He later moved to Broward (Weston, I believe).

MJ does own a home in West Kendall in my neighborhood. However, his girlfriend's parents live there and he and Yvette visit from time to time.
