I am in beautiful South Ozone Park (LOL) at the Genting Casino in New York this Christmas day, watching the Miami Heat on a movie sized screen. Very pleasant. About half the people here are Chinese. That surprised me. And I am up $9. That surprised me even more.
But worst of all they served big squid pieces in their wonton soup. Ick on that.

Pick up Rosetta Stone while you are there and learn Chinese. You need to be ready when they show up to collect our ever growing debt. I wonder how much of their money is funding the gambling industry.
Regardless of which company builds the casino, the "Game Changer" will be the introduction of frequent non-stop flights to and from China. The worlds largest population base, with money to spend, will now have direct access to South Florida.
None of these economists are calculating the economic impact of the non-gambling Chinese tourists.
Now, it's mostly Germans and South Americans. Open up our regions to a Country with a greater population than Europe and South America combined, and the BOOM will be like nothing we've seen.

ICK to the last post!
I've lived in Miami for about 10 years now, moved here from Denver, and I really hope they allow gambling in downtown Miami. I moved to Miami seeking a warm, urban environment. Before I moved here, I always imagined downtown Miami as a dense, vibrant locale, though it still is not, and I think this will really help the city achieve that. Miami Beach will be forced to allow a light rail train over the causeway because of all the new people that will visit the city, there will be new nonstops to Asia making it a lot easier to vacation in Bangkok, and maybe at one of these casinos we will finally have a cool roller coaster to ride on... lol... like those in the center of Tokyo. I think casino resorts are a great idea and will really help to make miami a much more walkable urban city which will happen sooner rather than later. I want Miami to become dense like vancouver or san fran - and i think this will speed that process up.
note that beautiful ozone park (lol is right) is a far cry from smack in the middle of the city -- hmm - would be more like Sweetwater or West Kendall -- if in NY the gamblers get there - maybe in Miami the casino folk could run shuttles from downtown to the site for the day-trippers? and I love squid - but in wonton soup? double ick
Go back to Denver instead of trying to remake Miami to fit you.
Miami, city of scavengers
