Miami Dade Charter: F--ked Up Change Proposed. By Geniusofdespair

What does this mean?  Next "General Election" could be almost a year. Yet it also says 60 to 120 days. Which is it?  I hope this doesn't happen.  Don't f--k with our petition drives. We want to be able to recall some of you Commissioners and we don't want to wait for a General Election.  Are they referring to ALL petitions or just charter change petitions?

This is still in circulation:

112108 Resolution     Esteban L. Bovo, Jr.
RESOLUTION CALLING A COUNTYWIDE SPECIAL ELECTION IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, [ ], 2012, FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING TO THE ELECTORS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY THE QUESTION OF WHETHER TO AMEND THE CHARTER TO INCREASE FROM 60 TO 120 DAYS THE TIME ALLOWED TO CIRCULATE INITIATORY PETITIONS, AND TO PROVIDE THAT ELECTIONS TO AMEND THE CHARTER, EITHER THROUGH INITIATORY PETITIONS OR BY BOARD ACTION, BE HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE NEXT SCHEDULED GENERAL ELECTION RATHER THAN WITHIN 60 TO 120 DAYS, AS CURRENTLY REQUIRED Amended
REPORT: It was moved by Commissioner Bovo that the foregoing proposed resolution be adopted as amended. This motion was seconded by Commissioner Sosa, and upon being put to a vote, passed by a vote of 12-1, (Commissioner Jordan voted "no").

The amended version was assigned Resolution No. R-941-11
10/18/2011 4 Day Rule Invoked by the Board of County Commissioners

The problem with these commissioners is that they think the voters are fools and that they know what is best for us. Really? Which one of you have the brains to tell anyone what is good for them?

Which one of you came from a background of privilege where you didn't have to struggle? How educated are you? What are your life experiences? How many fancy parties, receptions and events did you attend before becoming a commissioner?

See? You can't help it. You simply don't want to give up the life you were never accoustomed to, but now that you have a sample of special interests sychophants, kissing up to you for a vote and in effect buying you for $500.00 a pop you cannot live without it. That is who you are. A pack of never haves thinking they have found the pot of gold and have arrived! What a pathetic group of small people you are pretending to be big!!!!

It is insulting to think that most of you who couldn't burst their way out of a paper bag is now sitting on your throne paid for by the taxpayers are trying to represent those of us who have more brains in our little fingers than you have in your whole body. If it wasn't so serious, it would be laughable.

You advocated for the charter changes that the Taskforce recommended right?

Do you not know what they recommended?

Recommendation #9 was "The electors of Miami-Dade County be asked whether the Home Rule Charter should be amended to provide that the time period to collect signatures for proposed Charter amendments and citizens' initiatives be extended to 120 days and that proposed Charter amendments must only be placed on the ballot during a general election."

This item did exactly that. It has no effect on recall.

All certified petitions? Or only charter change petitions. This language is murky.

Brito is right...
this language extends the amount of time people have to collect signatures for a recall. HOWEVER after all the hard work in collecting signatures we the people have to wait until the next general election to vote on the petition... thanks but no thanks to the useful idiot who sponsored it..
Who proposed it? Bovo? No wonder
