Miami Herald: "Man dies after drowning near William Powell Bridge" ... by gimleteye
Well, ok. We bloggers mis-spell and get our grammar wrong, too. But this headline does seem to indicate that someone at the Herald is asleep at the proverbial switch. It's not as good as "Headless body found in topless bar" but once drowned is not twice dead.

It took me a minute......Some of the Herald on line comments are funnier than this headline!
The Herald has its problems, for sure, but this is not one of them. You can drown, and then be revived after drowning. This unfortunate individual drowned, and then died. My heart truly goes out to this person, taken too soon!
How do we really know if he didn't drown after he died?
I think an autopsy is in order.

Drowning is death from asphyxia due to suffocation caused by water entering the lungs and preventing the absorption of oxygen leading to cerebral hypoxia.
No, you cannot be revived after drowning. You are dead. There are instances of cold water immersion where people are succesfully revived but that isn't drowning.
Verb: to die underwater.
Near drowning is the term used for someone that is alive after immersion.
Maybe a bystander had a heart attack after seeing the drowned victim
