The Victory Celebration for Miami Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez. By Geniusofdespair

THIS IS A NEW BETTER VIDEO... VERY GOOD JOKE AT 1:14 ON THE COUNTER.

Rebeca Sosa was the only County Commissioner at the victory party. Also conspicuously absent, besides the other Commissioners, was PBA Chief John Rivera.

Our brave firefighters, among them are Robert Suarez, Rowan Taylor and Dean Parkerson.

Frank Balzebre, Aide to Mayor Gimenez when he was County Commissioner.

A very proud son, Carlos Gimenez, Jr. I heard he quit the board of the LBA. The family knows where their bread is buttered...not at the LBA, they endorsed Robaina. Eye on Miami endorsed Gimenez first, before the Miami Herald, but we never made it on any campaign fliers like the Miami Herald did (feeling a little like chopped liver over here).

This is the most important political victory in Dade County in the last 30 years.

The forces of light defeated the forces of darkness and ignorance. Integrity, honesty, and experience defeated dishonesty and fast-talking dis-ingenuousness.

The entrenched power structure has been turned out and has been replaced by openness and fairness.

This is a brand new day for all of us.

It's nice to see that some people can still feel passion. I, on the other hand, am a little more cerebral, and a lot colder! It displeases the hell out of me to see that EOM didn't make the campaign flyers... and it does because I'm the one who expressed that Genius was being very subjective about this campaign, and he told me off. Hate to see how easily people can turn ungrateful. But, oh, well... they are only human. I would have hated to see Robaina elected, and regarding Gimenez, we'll be watching him through a magnifying glass. Every candidate goes crazy when the Herald endorses them, and quite often -- and this is historical, in the case of Cubans -- the Herald has been "the kiss of death."

EOM may not have been mentioned on printed flyers but they're definitely listed on ALL electronic correspondence.

This is a good day for Miami-Dade County. Imagine waking up to a Mayor Robaina.

I was kidding...in fact let me say it clearly:

I don't want to be on any campaign fliers.

Five Times Carlos Gimenez Screwed The Taxpayers Banana Republican? To the anon above: Sour grapes. Or is it sour bananas?

Either way, boo, f-ing hoo.

This is another blow to the Seijas crumbling empire of hate. The peak was in November with the election of the witch in training. Now she is minus a few more playmates. Let's hope that last nights' victory signals a permanent shift from the prior far hysterical right CFC homophobe-nation victories we felt in November.

Gimenez must show he has the balls to lay off firemen and that he knows that public sector pay and benefits have gotten completely out of proportion with reality.

Firemen making $365,000 per year? Retiring with $15,000 per month pensions?

Re Anonymous comments about firemen pay and benefits.

I am a county employee, and not one of those that is over compensated, not by a long shot. I make a very modest salary, as do many other county workers. There are lots of us little people, some of them even in the Mayor's TO. I am angered by the 'higher taxes to support raises' soundbite the Herald, other media and Braman always use in describing the demise of Alvarez because it doesn't capture the full reality. I have not received a raise in 3 years, have had my pay cut by more than 5%, am about to lose another 3% on July 1, and will certainly be subject to whatever Gimenez has in mind. I can only hope he takes a thoughtful approach. Affected county staff like me remain committed to county and public service, we are willing to make salary concessions to help save jobs and services. Just remember, there are lots of us that are not overpaid fire fighters that get to retire at 40 with big pensions. I hope Gimenez keeps that in mind too, and I hope he sees this.

You did good work here on this campaign.

The County is full of overpaid slackers. Ever see the stampede of employees running for the exits at 4:58 pm?

Hardly anyone in the private sector gets health insurance or a pension. I don't.

Gimenez better put several thousand slackers on the street soon or he's history come 2012.

People are watching.
