6PM I talked to one of the guys running it - Grey Dodge. I am okay with this effort. It was a false alarm. They just happened to pick the name of a group that is now defunct.
Update 4 pm: It appears that it might be okay. This Sons of Democracy is not related to the evil group.
Earlier: Yes it is registered with the State and yes I got it from a reliable source. However, sponsor Sons of Democracy is not a good group (there is a group by that name nationally, might not be the same --indeed not the same group). Maybe they knew a petition was was coming and they wanted to confuse the issue. If they are not on the level they could just collect your info and throw out the petitions. However, sometimes on petitions, your enemies are your friends. But the treasurer might be a teacher -- Matthew Susin -- from the Space Coast. Grey Dodge is the Chairman, he is a law student. That is good news.
