New PAC, I do not like. By Geniusofdespair

This feelgood PAC name, formed July 21st, Citizens United for Protection of Our Community -- is financed by Homestead's Charles Munz's the Redland Company. The company donated $2,000 to this PAC so far. Again, Frank May is part of it. The PAC was formed to protect quality of life. They oppose any issue that adversely affects quality of life. Pretty broad. I fear this PAC will be used in the District 8 election. Thomas David is the treasurer. There was a Thomas David who was Chief of Staff to Steve Shiver. This PAC is suspiciously akin to Citizens for Reform for Miami Dade County which was Wayne Rosen and Charles Munz, Frank May was also on it. Only difference with this one is Jeffrey Porter (treasurer) and Rosen are not on the new one. The Citizens for Reform PAC was used to swing the last Homestead election.

Not much in this PAC yet but it will garner money and it won't have to report till after the election. This is why I HATE PAC's. It is a way to funnel large amounts of money to campaigns without a trail till it is too late for us to see it. It is bad enough we have to wait for campaign reports, but these PAC's are a travesty.

Tom David represents the Airport West or something like that. He just fought off an annexation by Miami Springs on behalf of the business owners, who were furious. The tape is online at miamidade.gov. He actually did a good job and worked on behalf of all the people who didn't want to be annexed (which were over 100 present). The article was in the Miami Springs section of the Herald.

Didn't Munz bail out Homestead years ago when they were going broke? I don't like the guy but what he did, so many newcomers don't know or forgot about.

I think Homestead got a raw deal on the fill issue, but in the long run, he gave more to the City than he ever took. (In my opinion)

Neither are saints, but what about the VNS PAC. To me, which all that money, that's the one to worry about buying an election.

If there is one--and only one thing Munz and his cohorts agree with EOM--- that is that Lynda Bell must not be elected to anything ever again.

Tom David is actively supporting Mayor Gene Flinn.

Tying Gene Flinn to Tom David to Pinky Munz to Steve Shiver who was the mayor when Munz bailed the mis-MANAGER MAYOR out is not helpful to Flinn.

PAC's have the same reporting requirements and dates as the candidates.

Munz, May, and Rosen are supporting Flynn too.. I just hope Flynn won't sell his soul for this seat.

The PAC hasn't spent any money yet. Let's hope it is a paper tiger.

If this is a toss up between this PAC and Bell/Seijas - well, sorry, I'd take this PAC. At least they know how to beat Bell. Or, this could have something to do with those annexations from last week. David was present at all of them. Who knows. It's all speculation.

Frank May got himself a job with Bateman and then got caught covering up for a campaign donor of Bateman by fabricating another name for the guy.

That donor works for Otis Wallace the Florida City mayor and Bateman business partner who has accountability to nobody. The Bateman and Wallace union has led to an investigation of Haitian relief funds used by Wallace to attend a conference.
Do a search of Haitian city Petit Goave and Wallace. About $15,000 is missing out of $24,000 collected.

As to whether or not this PAC is just another "paper tiger" - highly unlikely.

The only reason these people give money is because they expect something in return.

Not defending this bunch but it may not be accurate to say that the PAC swayed the last election in Homestead. Maybe it was Bell's nastiness of personality that did most of the swinging.

Certainly this PAC isn't the only "off the candidate campaign books" at play in the District 8 election.

Bell is not only downright nasty (watch any public hearing from Homestead), I don't believe she's the brightest bulb on the tree. She may be able to fool some of the people in the North end of Dist. 8 but she isn't going to fool anyone in the South end of the Dist.

The only reason Seijas is backing her is because Bell is so ignorant, VNS thinks she'll be her puppet. But, what the Vile one doesn't know is that "Lynda4Life" has her own agenda and it's not for the benefit of our Community!

Lynda should consider moving to Wasula and run against Levi Johnson. That's where she belongs!

Because I don't like a PAC does not mean I don't like a candidate. I am not one dimensional like an anti-abortionist that bases a vote on one thing. I look at the whole picture, the whole candidate, all the people they surround themselves with. I know a lot about what is going on from years of muckraking. I would be a liar to all of sudden like things I never liked before --

I never liked most PAC's for instance. Why should this change?

Wasilla.. that is a good one. Alaska is not big enough for the combined egos of Bell and Palin.
On a serious note, Flinn better be paying attention and not get complacent. She will hit hard at the very end when he has no chance to refute a misleading mail campaign. Sadly, many voters buy that slime because they are otherwise uninformed.

When Tom David is on the fringe of a PAC it probably means that the Homestead good old boy network is in play. He has a history there that goes back to the Alex Muxo days before and immediately after Andrew in Homestead where he "served" as an assistant city manager. Flinn would be well served to distance himself from this.

The Frank May led PAC in Homestead protected the Munz and Rosen quality of life. The ignorant imbeciles on the council rewarded their PAC donors with millions as they settled a lawsuit that had gone the city's way and postponed another by Rosen.

Tom David was Shiver's Chief of Staff - Strike one!

Munz almost single handedly created a hellish environmental disaster in Homestead and its residents are paying over $3 Million to clean that sh*t up! - Strike 2

Rosen wanted to pave over Homestead back in 2007 and got rid of its Mayor for her "nastiness" against him. And we're still gonna give this group the benefit of the doubt about their intentions?

Think what you want of Bell, I'd be very wary about who this group supports. These people do not give to candidates out of the kindness of their hearts. They believe in government for sale to the highest bidder and they dont care who they have to bribe, smear or bring down in order to get it.

Just look at the 3 ring circus currently ruling Homestead right now. Its gonna take a paddywaggon from the State Attorney to clean up the mess these "concerned citizens" brought to Homestead. I should know, I'm one of the saps who is getting stuck with the bill!

at the last post: and Lynda Bell doesn't have her three ring circus in play. Who are you trying to kid?
From the campaign manager to her support from the dais, you have got to be kidding, right?
Both candidates have their positives and their negatives. The question is which one stinks the least?
You could compare consultants too, but that would entail uncovering the soft money too and that isn't happening any time soon either.

"...both candidates stink?" really. How sad. I don't think that is the case at all. I know that this is the populist thing to say, but - hey.

I still think a good person can take campaign donations and not be bought by it. A elected official would be an idiot to take money and then do something that would get themselves into trouble.

Geniusofdespair said...

I totally agree. Pacs, are not donations they are hard to unravel and have 'no' limits. Why should donations have limits on a report when Pacs can do virtually the same thing and one person can spend millions if they want.

Political committees are a reality of modern politics. They are permitted by county, state, and the federal government and are used as tools to affect the outcome of elections. Whether you like them or not, they are permitted and will continue to be utilized by enterprising political strategists.

Seijas wants to be County Commission Chair. She has recruited sister Republican Lynda Bell to ensure the swing vote for her right wing agenda and to vote for her as Commission Chair.

If Bell is elected and Seijas becomes Commission Chair, you can expect institutionalization of the Seijas agenda and implementation of Bell's Right to Life agenda in the public health trust and other critical areas of the public's business. Other more rational and centrist members of the County Commission will be shut out. This election is only about power.

Please, do not be naive and think before you vote.

I say: Well at least we can expose them...not such a great enterprising endeavor when that happens.
