County Commission: Stop Wasting our Tax Dollars. By Geniusofdespair

This sandwich board sign cost a lot to produce because it was one of a kind project. Even done in house, it had to cost a couple of hundred at least and someone had to be paid to deliver it. And, now someone has to be paid to go upright it.

Nobody cares if you are fixing a light or upgrading a pump station except you guys and gals on the Miami Dade County Commission. We know you want brownie points with the public. Here is a tip Commissioners: We are not impressed, we find these signs a colossal waste of money. Why are my taxes higher, because you all refuse to STOP WASTING MONEY!

Our government officials have forgoten that government is a mean not an ends. they should provide services and reasonable prices. Hell if a ran my business as the government i would have closed down years ago and know when the situation is worse they increase taxes and fees. Must be nice to reach into someone elses wallet at will

These signs, the photos of the Commissioners in hundreds of county offices, the photographers who follw the Commissioners and take what are later used as campaign photos are all evidence of the bubble that the imperial 13 live in to the exclusion of reality. They have an entitlement mentality adn our tax dollars are used to perpetuate their time in office.
The best use of Bramans money would be to initiate a referendum that ultimately dissolves Metro govt as we know it a returns power and control of govt to the people in a meaningful way. Term limits, campaign finance, restrictions on perks and benefits, declare bankruptcy and wipe out excessive pensions....

a bigger waste of money are the travel junkets, slush funds and police drivers for elected officials...
what about the shelters for public service announcements like reading at the library...
why not recruit the Heat and Marlins players to make the psa's since they are benefiting from the tax subsidized arena and stadium?
imagine if Lebron James, Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade rode the Metro Rail and Bus to work? Wouldn't that do wonders for ridership?
I can dream, right?

I support Braman's recall effort because it includes Rolle & Seijas! My favorite Commissioner, Sorenson, isn't running againt and Moss, who I also like, will get re elected if he's recalled, the rest of them - oh well!

Even Heyman can go. For those who remember, Heyman was the final vote on Lowes, she could have stopped it from going to the DCA, but she didn't and how much is that costing us still?

I only wish it included little Joe and Pepe le Pew!

Lets start that the money for all those projects doesn't come from them (politicians)it comes from us saps (captive taxpayers).

So they shouldn't take credit for anything other than picking our pockets. The signs should read
"You Suckers Voted For Us So We Are Taking Your Money and Blowing it on a bunch of Crap That our close friends and family members profit from at your expense.
PS KEEP VOTING FOR US"

G.O.D. since you questioned Bramans willingness to recall Rebeca what do you say about your darling Katy's vote last night? (and on previous budgets).

PS From Aristophanes about 2500 years ago (still true today)

"The course our city runs is the same towards men and money.
She has true and worthy sons.
She has fine new gold and ancient silver,
Coins untouched with alloys, gold or silver,
Each well minted, tested each and ringing clear.
Yet we never use them!
Others pass from hand to hand,
Sorry brass just struck last week and branded with a wretched brand.
So with men we know for upright, blameless lives and noble names,
These we spurn for men of brass..."

Thanks to Huamn Nature we are eternally screwed.

Can anybody answer this for me, please?

Do County Commission Districts change every 10 years after a Census?

If so, who draws the new lines and are they up and "running" in 2012, just like in Congress and the State Legislature?

Thank you

With guidance from the Elections Supervisor, the Planning Department demographic unit, and a consultant, the County Commission will approve new districts that meet the requirements of the Meek v Dade County ruling from Judge Graham in 1993.

Thank you. So, they will are to take effect in 2012 or 2011?

These signs have been part of ANY construction project since time immemorial.

They used to be blue and orange when I was a kid and damn near impossible to read. They used to have all the commissioners (back when there were nine) in the middle of the board. At least now they run them in tiny print up the left side so you can actually see the project detail.

Go to a FDOT, Water District, Army Corps, or just about any city project and you'll find the same.

They are intended to show you who was doing the work. If people are sleeping on the job, you can call it in based on the project name and number.

Quit whining about everything. You only noticed the signs now because they aren't completely bland and easy to miss.

Term limits and a recall are required.

just because the signs have been around forever, doesn't mean they should continue.
and if Braman wants to make a difference now, why doesn't he fund Dorrin Rolle's defeat from the commission right now? it's a lot easier then a recall.

I believe they cost around 500. a sign.... maybe a bit less ... I asked once.

Mr. Braman should financially support a charter change to include the way commissioners are elected by creating "at large" election process. Most sitting commissioners would not be re-elected with this process. Tack on two-consecutive term limits. That's it. If these charter changes get voted down, then appeal them. Keep the heat on until change comes.

Do not permit any lobbyist from sitting on county boards. Their influence via $ does nothing for the tax payers. Business as usual!

Regarding the class size amendment - this was implemented due to run away development. If voters approve the amendment classrooms will become crowded once again. New development cannot be built if schools are overcrowded; Keep it that way. Averaging opens the nasty develoopment door again, especially on the western fringes.

We could save about $100,000 by eliminating the self- promotional signs in all 13 districts. Take note George Burgess.

the journey of a thousand miles (or a billion dollars) begins with one step (or a 100K).

SIgns for the little stuff are a stupid waste of money. Signs for the big stuff let people know what kinds of decisions were made in marginally advertised public hearings that took place when everyone else was at work and couldn't attend the meetings.

...one more thing about the signs. When our sidewalks were being fixed, we all looked out, made sure they weren't taking up concrete that was in good condition, made sure the contractors were doing their jobs and doing their jobs well. We are watch dogs out here in West Kendall, and getting more and more so every day.
