Something smells fishy Downtown. By Geniusofdespair

Regarding those two colossal electronic billboards proposed on the waterfront near the Arsht Center, with the equivalent lighting of 4 full moons, Oscar Pedro Musibay reported today in the South Florida Business Journal:

Siffin’s proposal would alter the city code to allow the billboards, instead of being vetted through Miami 21.

“That sounds very unusual because Miami 21 is the land development code of the city,” said zoning attorney Stanley Price, a partner at Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP. “If this is regulating a use, it should be in the land development part of the code.”

In fact, the city’s planning department had no hand in the creation of an ordinance that would permit the billboards to be built, and won’t be providing a recommendation to the commission.

Instead, Siffin’s attorneys, Jeff Bercow and Ben Fernandez, took the rare step of writing the legislation.

Here is a tip readers: When you have Jeffrey Bercow and Stanley Price mentioned in the same article, you had better take note that something big is up. The hearing is tomorrow at City Hall. According to a report done by Main Street Engineering, the light from these 250 and 350 foot billboard towers might reach some residents that are as far as a half-mile away - damn lotta light!

Ridiculous. I hope someone chops them down if they go through.

Has the Herald reported on this, or laid low because of the $$?

It seems the administration has taken a liking to back room deals. Ain't that a hoot.

Bercow writing laws and now two commissioners want CRA funds to pay their staff in a whole other mess? What next?

I'll take any and all bets that the "Price is right" on this one.
