I hope he runs the right kind of campaign. Personally, I hope there are more people who come out of their party to the center. To me, this fits with a growing distrust that people have in the left and the right.
vetoing SB 6 showed some backbone, supporting global warming legislation and a clean energy standard showed some backbone, picking PSC people he knew would stick a pin in FPL's billion dollar rate hike showed backbone.
His problem for me is that in all of those instances above - he initially supported SB6, he backed away from his clean energy efforts to appeal to the Repub fringe, and he let his nominees twist in the Senate.
We are not going to agree with a politician ALL the time. SB360 was a disaster but his pick of Tom Pelham for DCA was great. Overall, Crist is a hundred times better than Jeb.
Sorry M, Within the ranks of the Conservative Pubs, Crist did an AMAZING job. His appointments, for the most part, were incredibly fair and good for the State.
His "appointments" include' George Lemuix (who?) exactly! Nanct Argenziano (and her broomstick) to the PSC! Perry, Polston, and Canady to the Supreme Court!
Many on the sfwd governing board, some judges to name a few. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater he got these through under enormous pressure to instead put wingnuts on and he didn't cave.
oy, "m" - your continual spiel on "lack of backbone" is tired and dis-proven. He went against his own "party" and refused to follow the national Republican script re: Obama and stimulus money - for the good of the folks in Florida. That "for the good of the folks in Florida" was the window of opportunity that Rubio crawled thru - typical sleaze move by a politician. Go Charlie!
Charlie accepted the stimulus money that the Republicans are gleefully spending but they chastized him for accepting it. Charlie did what was best for the state, including hugging Obama. Maybe without the Republican party around his neck he will be a great senator for the people. He sure is better than wacko Rubio or ethically challenged, sugar baron Meek.
If you think that having convictions means sticking with your party even when they are wrong - I don't think we need those kinds of convictions. It is good to have ideologies that guide reasoning and action, but the realities and ideologies often clash in the world called "get real". That is the world where Charlie resides most of the time. Now that conservative Republicans are hating on him, I am glad. He has been liberated and now he can just do the right thing. Image that.
Crist should of gone full monty and switched over to the D side. He will now get pummeled by both sides. Watch his numbers go further down from this day forward. This is a sad chapter in Florida politics.
I agree with M mostly Charlie is a finger to the wind politician the only reason he vetoed SB6 was because it would not have shut his Indi run door completely. Vetoing the bill gave him a chance to garner a support base after his switch. Yes Republicans who spend Obama $$$ and criticize Crist (David Rivera et al)are Hipocrits but the stimulus is still wrong and will only end up making a recovery much more difficult.

Great News...historic.
I am stoked. This is going to be one hell of a race.
Yep all eyes will be on Florida, the dysfunctional state, again.

Let the games begin. The campaign will be a brutal attack fest.
He talked a lot about "supporting ideas". He "supports" a lot of ideas. He just never comes up with any ideas of his own.
His theme song should be: "If I only had a brain".
We'll, just as Dorothy said: Florida will miss you most of all scarecrow (Crist). Not.
For God's sake man, have some convictions, or a little backbone.

Polling issues and "sticking your finger out to judge which way the wind is blowing", does not show backbone.
Heck that was Penelas' Motus Operandi.

Now if Charlie will only "get liberated" from that closet he's been hiding out in and be who he really is.
