At the CDMP Heraring. By Geniusofdespair

Application 4 has been withdrawn - that is the one we have been writing about - Ferro. Looks like Ferro's lobbyists can count. They didn't have the votes. They submitted a letter, the public didn't get to see it.

Candidates from District 8 that are here are, Pam Gray, Albert Harum Alvarez and Gene Flinn. Annette Taddeo is here as well and Lynda Bell. I didn't recognize them from their glamour shots - so there are 5 candidates out of 7. Carlos Gimenez just arrived it is 10:30.

One reader said I should post what the candidates said and I will. I saw 3 speak just now. There is a second application and maybe the others will speak. Pam Gray voted for these - against - on the Planning Advisory Board, so I don't think she can speak on it here.

They'll resubmit it in November 2012.

Carlos Gimenez is not here. Sally Heyman is in surgery.

Where are the other candidates? They can't say they are working...they all work. Only 3 candidates. Pathetic.

Gimenez is here.

umm, if they "don't have the votes" that means the majority of commissioners wouldn't vote for it, so in what sense is that majority "unreformable?"

We don't know enough to make a change to our label. Remember there are commissioners up for reelection and others eyeing the mayor post. This could be political angling behavior more than change of heart.

To all the guys who may have thought of building small scale truck parking in convenient locations, right in Doral or Hialeah near the warehouses where they drop or load:

You lose! The county commission is about to vote for a massive truck lot on open land near our wellfield, OUTSIDE the UDB. They'll be able to undercut your little business, and still make millions since they bought the land cheap and just doubled it's value.

The BCC killed chances for small business, and enriched the few and the powerful.

Oh, and the other losers: people who drink water. Commissioner Diaz said we depend on trade, and we do. But we depend MORE on water. We're fouling the nest, folks.

last time i checked "political angling" is the same as "trying to convince swing voters that you represent their interests better" which in this case is the same as "recognizing that most voters don't want to move the UDB" which sounds like "reform" to me. you can't be victim all the time, GOD.

I will go with the political angling. There will be lots of dancing going on at County Hall for the next 5 months.

...and then back to business as usual

Youbetcha's got it partially right. The big seat is up, and the race for that will begin in earnest probably before the elections in August.

So, the question is: Who is the independent candidate with nerve enough to ask necessary questions and base his/her decisions as a commissioner on what is best for the people he/she represents. Albert Harum-Alvarez has been asking these kinds of questions for years and acting accordingly in the best interest of his community. He should be given the chance to continue this hard work where it can do the most good, on the Miami-Dade County Commission.
