Elections: Natacha Seijas Supports Lobbyist Miguel Diaz de la Portilla for State Senator. Enough Said? By Geniusofdespair

The question is: Who is going to help Julio Robaina? He is going to get out-gunned money-wise in the 2010 election for this Fl. Senate seat. Lobbyist Miguel Diaz de la Portilla has already raised $316,594.34 and $250 of that came from Vile Natacha Seijas. That should say a lot. Here are some other notable contributors (notable because I watch out for them): Alberto Cardenas, Alan Becker and family (Becker & Poliakoff), Ron Book and family, Braman Corporations, John Brunetti (Hialeah Race track), Florida Crystals, Greenberg Traurig, Lopez-Cantera family, Latin Builders Association, Juan Mayol & Felix Lasarte (attempt to move the UDB lawyers), Masoud Shojaee Companies (Shoma Homes), PAC - Citizens for Housing and Urban Growth.

Julio Robaina has raised $135,353.93 didn’t see the above generous givers on his list.

Julio is not perfect - he supported putting the tubes back in Terri Schiavo for instance. But he is a good guy. Robaina (not to be confused with the Hialeah Mayor with the same name) is the Chair of the Everglades Restoration Oversight Committee and I can't think of any other Republican I would rather see in charge of it. Here is a map of district 36 and stats:

Registered Voters 2000 163,401
Republicans 82,343 50.4%
Democrats 52,968 32.4%
Independents/Other Parties 28,090 17.2%

Hit on map to enlarge it.

If you live in West Miami, South Miami, Miami, Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay or Cutler Ridge consider voting for Julio Robaina and tell your friends about him. He will have no chance without your help.

Wait, I am very confused.

It's OK when a throng of lobbyists and developers (and the Vile Natacha Seijas) support your buddy Tomas Regalado. But it's not ok when they support Miguel Diaz de la Portilla?

I think you have something against well educated and handsome Cuban American politicians that do not embarrass our City every time they open their mouths.

That explains your hatred of Manny Diaz. Your hatred of Diaz de la Portilla. And how you can support barely literate Robaina and Regalado.

First: Look back in my posts. I NEVER THREW SUPPORT BEHIND MANNY OR TOMAS. You will see almost nothing in my posts. Gimleteye is a separate person with his own views. In fact I supported Miguel for Mayor, but he is not the same person he was when he was a county commissioner. I liked Tomas Regalado and Joe Sanchez as people. I did not endorse either one. Stacey, do your homework. I like good looking Cubans, but I don't think that is a reason to elect them, but a lot of grandmothers do.

Stacy-Manny Diaz handsome? Check your eyes, dear. He reminds of "Quico" from "El Chavo del 8" with his fat cheeks and intelligle speech!

And as far as embarrassment goes, wasn't Manny involved in an ethics violation when he bought a property with a commissioner and the city manager? De la Portilla is a master of the "bribing game". He owns half of the BCC and 90% of the community councils.

Sometimes you are left with two bad choices and must make the best decision. Regalado had all those bad supporters that is correct. Sanchez had all those bad votes (the stadium and Mercy Hospital to name two). Which is more important: What they do or who supports them? In the case of the City Mayor, Tomas was the better choice of the two. Not a great choice but the better one. At least his votes were better.

This looks like another one of those: which is less worse. Stacey, I agree do your homework.

Julio has great hair....He listens, he is a good egg.

As long as the illiterate Cubans are in charge of City Hall, the "enlightened" ones can throw bananas.

Julio is better. Somethng happened to Miguel maybe they turn when they become lobbyists.

Robaina is a fool. Miguel is very intelligent and can be a great leader when he focuses on the issues. My vote will be for Miguel.

Julio is a fool like a fox. Miguel is intelligent but he has abused himself since his failed run for Miami Dade Mayor and now he wants to abuse us. No thanks. Rubio is intelligent too which proves brains alone don't make a good person.

Where was Miguel???
Channel 4 report on last night's meeting:

Meanwhile FPL continues to go through an approval process. They hope to break ground in 2014. But it won't be easy. Representative Julio Robaina told CBS4 this evening the folks in Tallahassee are extremely concerned about this plan, including the $20 billion price tag.

"Yes, we are very concerned. I have always been a critic of FPL and the need for this, especially when we have a state where the population is
diminishing, and we are trying to expand the need for power." said Robaina.

Miguel is not the person I ate lunch with when he was a commissioner. We sat and discussed community needs like he really understood them or at least believed a commissioner should listen.

Then he grew up and got bit by the development bug. Now he is just like Juan Mayol (handsome devil) and Juan's friends.

I have been disappointed.

South Miami loves Julio Robaina! He was instrumental in discharging US HUD's regulatory agreement on Lee Park in 1999. Lee Park was one of the most successful affordable housing projects in HUD history. With the regulatory agreement removed, Lee Park turned condo, the nearby predatory lending operation moved in for the kill and now Lee Park's owners are predominantly speculators - who managed to upzone the property to 4 stories. Congrats Julio, job well done.

Two other dudes with great hair: Jose Cancella and Joe Sanchez.

Jose Cancella looks like a mafia don or George Charkiris in West Side Story.

Anyone know the status of the application to move the UDB line that Miguel D is lobbying for?

This will once again be one of those battles of one camp vs the other. On one side...Robaina, Zapata, Villalobos, etc vs. DLP, Lopez-Cantera, Fresen, etc.

It's embarrassing that this is the best this county can come up with.

Robaina - nice guy, helluva public servant, but lacking some policy skills

Zapata - crazy dude, who will be probably get screwed over in his commission run. And isn't he dating a county employee?

Villalobos - tons of potential, did some good work in Tallahassee, but his allofness cost him

DLP Family - they would shake down their own mother and burn the family dog to get ahead. That's the advantage Miguel has.

Lopez-Cantera - loyal soldier who does as told, but probably doesn't have much of a political future once termed out

Fresen - good kid, but going down a bad path. He thinks he will be Speaker, not likely.

anonymous above thanks for giving me my laugh of the day:

Answer to the question about the bust-the-udb property Miguel is fronting for: It got approved by the County Commission to send it to Tallahassee.

Sorenson, Moss, Sosa, and (a surprise) Edmonson voted against it. Gimenez voted for it, while Heyman was absent.

Gimenez said he wanted to hear from the State. They all say that as an excuse to deflect their vote for sprawl.

What county employee is Rep. Zapata dating?
