10:45 pm: Budget Hearings Are Still Going at the County. By Geniusofdespair

A woman just yelled at Commissioner Pepe Diaz for laughing while she was talking. She said she was down in the lobby for 5 hours. Mr. Mayor, let's get these people some cookies and vino while they are waiting, it would put them in a better mood. Most of the people so far are begging for money for their organizations and causes. Glad I didn't go to hear that. BTW - To whomever thought it up: Stop blocking off VIP "Reserved" seating in the commission chambers. The seats are not for VIP's they are for the people. Give me a break.

Remember Miami 21 is being heard again at the City of Miami tomorrow. Aren't you glad you had nothing better to do this week?

This is depressing to watch. A lot of really amazing charities.

I watched for a few hours. It was difficult to say the least.

I cannot afford any more taxes. I believe the County will be best served cutting from within County Hall administration, pensions and concessions from Unions. While that my not cure the deficit, it could probably cut a big chunk out of it.

From there, I'd allocate funding back to the social services first. The Arts are great and I support them, but they kept saying how rich they are and I cannot fathom with their donor base that losing $11 million will really hurt when they have deep pocket donors who could probably fill in the gap. I'd also put funding back into the Ag Center wich is matched and is the primary resources for farmers, as the farmer who spoke so eloquently about the necessity of the center and Farm Share, who is also matched and serves the needs of so many in South Dade.

I'm a tired and over worked taxpayer with more than one property in this County. The School Board taxes are brutal enough and I've never had a kid in the public school system here.

I agree with the unreformable majority on this one, and that's a hard thing to say for me, as I've never agreed with them on anything.

It was pathetic to see so many people with their hand out. They should get cracking and fundraise. If the charity is worthy they can get some money. I don't pay taxes to fund all these privately run programs.

Good for that woman for scolding Diaz. He was incredibly rude, making jokes with others at the dais while residents spoke. But did you notice what happened when the next speaker took the podium? Pepe suddenly straightened up, listened wiht rapt attention and let the guy talk for a minute longer than the 2 minute alloted time. The guy was the Firefighter union president. It couldn't have been more obvious to viewers and employees that unless you have a union or a personal lobbyist, your remarks were doomed to be ignored.

County executives? Crooks is a better description.

This was a ridiculous show. All these people begging for causes -- what about the guy with the Ribs business? We just shouldn't be financing all these ventures with tax dollars. This is a good place to cut...

The silver lining in a bad economy and housing bust? The taxpayers finally wake up and pay attention to where their tax dollars actually go. Finally, people take notice. There are many worthy causes and NONE should be funded with tax dollars. You fund with tax dollars the police, firefighters, infrastructure maintanence, schools and parks and administration to oversee all that you are funding. The rest of it needs to look to the private sector for funding.

Right on Miaexile, county hall looked like a beggars banquet yesterday. I saw Save Dare T-shirts, Save Paws T Shirt, Save Mom and POP Tshirts, No Save the Whales Ts (sorry Natasha) what I failed to see was SAVE MY FAMILY LOWER MY TAXES T-Shirts

That display of budget requests, is not because of this years budget. It happens every budget year, good or bad.

Mayor Alvarez is a joke. George Burgess is laughing all the way to the bank.

2,000 County staffers need to get fired starting with everyone who was involved in giving away $3 billion to the privately owned Marlins baseball team. Dennis Moss must go. Bruno "the Dim" Barreio must go.

True I remember the yaer of the housing fiasco that a bunch of clowns came in wearing signs asking for another $200 million for housing

What I hate the most is children being used as props especially by firefighters union (and others). My situation is not the best and I would like to see me property taxes lowered but a BCC meeting is not a place for kids to be used as props.
