FP&L is Asking for a Rate Hike and is the Democratic Torture Test Finally Over? Geniusofdespair

FP&L wants a 16% rate hike by August. Sprawl people are getting hit hard, they already are saddled with huge gas price increases for travel to and from work and now they have to absorb higher utility bills for those big houses in the burbs. What is your utility bill going to be, share the news.

Glory to God: I think the Democratic presidential candidate race is finally over. Please don’t pick Hillary for a running mate Obama. I just couldn’t stand another minute of the two of you. And, here is some more advice: Don't take on Clinton Spokesperson Terry McAuliffe, even as a volunteer. He is very annoying. Democrats have annoyed the American public enough.

1,500 sq. ft. townhouse, 78 temp setting, $185/month, insulated, energy star doors, several energy star appliances including A/C.

That rate hike will put you over $200 reader. I wonder how these increases of essentials are effecting the fixed income set.

It's like yesterday's post; the American treasure is being picked clean by energy producers (and FPL isn't helping anyone but its shareholders and corporate officers). At least on NBC Nightly News last night, the key point was made during a segment on new cars that can get over 100 miles per gallon (but they don't look like SUV's): when the US has finally reduced its consumption of fossil fuels by 50 percent, we don't ever have to go to Saudi Arabia with our hats in hand, the way Bush does or fight wars in the Mideast under false pretenses.

You are always quick to jump on the negatives of the doings of FPL. I was waiting to see if you had anything to say about the solar project talked about in yesterdays paper. No comments positive or negative?

Come to North Miami! Lots of bus routes to everywhere, my little old 1950 1,003 sq.ft house with original windows, doors and flat tile roof is doing great with the FPL bill - I work from home so a/c is running all the time to keep me cool at about 72 and my last bill was 83.00 !! Yay! Oh yeah, no clothes dryer here, just a lovely old orignal clothes line in my backyard where my clothes dry quickly and don't shrink!

exfpler -- I read about the solar project but I am trying to get more information first. Thanks for the reminder.

Anonymous in North Miami:

Most people have 2,000 square foot homes or more. Double your bill and add on for the dryer and you are at $200. Add 16% and it is $232.

Re; HillBama...I agree. It will be a relief to not hear about them anymore but what next? McBama until November.

ExFpler -- I don't think it is negative to talk about an increase in service costs. I tend to go for the impact on the pocketbook on all issues. No where in my post did I say they shouldn't incease the cost (I didn't really think about that). I simply asked what it was going to do to resident's bills.

I am seeing the handwriting on the wall; increases in this and increases in that, and the foreclosures we are facing this year could go as high as 50,000 in Miami Dade (more than 5 times what we saw in 2006). I see a trend that is not about your x employer.

Meanwhile, I have made inquiries about the Solar plant and await some answers...

My comment was not referring to any particular Blog topic. I do feel that the Blog has overall negative slant when it comes to FPL. Maybe they deserve it. I do find that when things are published about FPL doing the “right” thing they are not mentioned in the Blog, even when they are related to the general stream of Blog topics that usually relate to the environment. This entry was the next one after the solar story to include FPL as part of the headline so this is where I made the comment. As far as overall costs going up I’m also concerned, remember I’m retired and have to make my investments last until my spouse and I are gone from this earth.

Everyone with a house should install solar panels and sell the power to FPL. Then FPL won't need the energy cost increase.

Anyone interested in getting an assessment of a solar energy project can see some of the work a local Miami Beach resident is doing with his home:

I've been trying to find others who are blazing a path for the rest of us to go solar here in Miami-Dade.

To exFPLer - I read your comment and was trying to think of the last time I saw good news on the blog. The reality is - if FPL, an Elected official or anyone else actually does something good - they'll be patting themselves on the back and shouting it from the rooftops - so eyeonmiami should stick to reporting on the rest - even if it is disheartening.

What consistently troubles me is how the solution offered to energy strains are rate hikes and more fossil fuel burning power plants. South Florida needs solutions that will not damage the environment further.

Are we suppose to be reporting good news? Someone should have told me.
