You have till June 17th to find a challenger! By Geniusofdespair

Miami Dade County Commissioners without challengers and their district numbers: 1 Barbara J. Jordan, 5 Bruno A. Barreiro, 7 Carlos A. Gimenez and 13 Natacha Seijas. 3 Audrey M. Edmondson, 9 Dennis C. Moss, 11 Joe A. Martinez have challengers. I think Moss's challenger has dropped out: He reimbursed himself the $100 in his campaign account.

Are you going to give the Commissioners without challengers a free ride? Don’t you want to see Lobbyists spend a lot of time and money fundraising?

Here are the qualifications to run:

Qualified elector of Miami-Dade County, Resident of Miami-Dade County at least three (3) years prior to qualifying, Resident of District at least six (6) months prior to qualifying. I am pretty sure you can put your name in now and not have to pay the fee until noon on June 17th. The qualifying fee of $360.00 paid by means of a campaign check with a check drawn on Campaign Account (Filing fee of $300.00 plus 1% of annual salary as of July 1, 2007 for Election Assessment).

If they have no challengers they are reelected automatically on June 17th. Don’t bitch about them if you don’t find a candidate to run in some of these districts. This is your chance to throw the bums out! Questions about running: soedade@miamidade.gov

Where am I going to find someone who wants to work for $6,000 a year if they are not a crook?

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry, but, at least one member of that group is not a crook, and that is Carlos Gimenez. He is the best Commissioner we have, so, why don't we focus on the remainder?

It is hard not to generalize -- I feel your pain anonymous who wrote the crook comment.

Gimenez has two pensions...he can afford to work for $6,000 a year. But it is really not $6,000 a year. They all must claim about $50,000 on their taxes from the County. Car, medical, etc.

That is true, with the car allowance, cell phone, gas, insurance, etc., the total benefits package is close to $38K, so, that with the $6K in salary is about $44 K in total.

What two pensions???

City of Miami Fire Chief
City of Miami Manager

They are claiming close to $50,000 on their financials some, a bit over.

I was at the City at the time, and my understanding is that his pension is only from Fire.. It was rolled into his agreement when he became Manager. You should check with his office to make sure.

I think that Martinez & Seijas need to go the soonest and the most. I think that they spearhead the disfunction of the board of commissioners.

Joe has to go.

Geniusofdespair said...

Saying they need to go is not enough. Come on readers, what is the headline here.

Its hard to get rid of them when they don't even have a challenger. We should have term limits.

I disagree. Martinez does in fact have a challenger. Bermudez is gaining alot of momentum from the district residents. I drove by 137 Ave today and he had at least 40 people rallying there.

I think that we tend to under estimate the good guys sometimes. I am a resident of district 11 and Im more than pleased to vote for this young candidate. In fact, im excited to have a different kind of candidate. Most of the ones that we have had up until now, have sucked. So forgive me but the same standards will continue to bring the same type of candidates.

The guy does/did events.. So what?
Its still business experience.

The guy is not married...So what?
The ones that are- cheat!

The guy wants to operate the county like a corporation...So what? We have so many budget and money issues that we should be handling goverment like a business. *except without little joe's definition of a business, which for him it means that he needs to sell votes to developers FOR PROFIT.

People..you know what were saying.
Lets stop talking I*(&* and be realistic. 11 is heading towards some good change.

TT.

TT - you want to help this guy...GET HIM TO A PROFESSIONAL TO FRAME HIS MESSAGE.

Anonymous said...

Bermudez YES! Martinez NO!

Geniusofdespair said...

That is not a message.

Papito, your the expert in politics and you care the most about Miami Dade. So you should volunteer to help him frame the message. You can contribute to getting Martinez out, and eso es what will solidify your "goal" of breaking the choke hold. Your site is helpful but you can do more.

I am not a professional. He needs to talk to a professional campaign manager. If he is a repugnant or dumbocrat they can hook him up with someone.

I received a message that the Kendall Federation of Homeowners Association is supporting Whilly Bermudez for District 11.
Also on his side is West Kendall Community Council Eleven member, Jeffrey Wander.
The Bermudez camp has also been receiving help from an old Martinez advisor.
I also understand Whilly Bermudez has met with Governor Crist, and that a former Crist campaign strategist is helping him also.
This is getting very interesting.

Don't lie to my readers last Anon. I checked with the Kendall Federation: They have not endorsed anyone. And Bermudez said he never met with Governor Crist. LIES all Lies...
