Mario Diaz Balart: Looking Dazed, Confused and Angry. By Geniusofdespair

Mario Diaz Balart is looking pretty strange here in this candid photo... he looks lost in absolutely NO thought. Well maybe he is getting ready to think about Cuba Policy. That is about all he can muster. Who is the other guy, anyone know?

Here is an equally strange photo, this time Mario is holding back the people from getting close to his brother. Lincoln Diaz Balart is talking to a reporter about Cuba policy I presume:

It looks like he is longing for the other fellow's attention.

The "other fellow" in the picture on the left is Miguel Otero, who I believe is his District Director.

He's far more cordial than Mario.

How did we get these two bad congressman in Florida? Oh, that's right the people in the district are idiots who put them in on ONE issue. I think Lincoln is talking about the embrago...look at how passionate he is. (I was looking all over for the second photo, I finally saw read more, you should have put them both on the front page).

same suit?

To the third anonymous; the only idiot here is you. Show some respect, not only for the Congressmen but for the constituents. The people in the district are Anglo's, Cubans, Venezuelan's, Columbians, Dominicans, Haitians, Blacks, and more. Pull out your dictionary so you can spell embargo. Like it or not-Cuba is an issue here. It has been for 50 years, and will continue to be. Maybe if this Country elects your presidential candidate Obama, and the Diaz-Balart rivals, you can enjoy a high tea with crumpets with the Castro brothers, Chavez, Morales, and other socialist/terrorists at the Plaza de Revolucion in Havana. I bet you would love that.

Lincoln has been in Congress forever.

His brother used to be pretty good at being somewhat bipartisan when he needed to get stuff done while he was in the Florida Senate. He used to be the Appropriations Chairman. Now he's a partisan waterboy for Bush.

In his former Florida Senate position, he carved out a new Congressional district just for himself.

It's hard to run a campaign against someone who gets to draw the map.

The Dems were too small-minded and self-centered to see the big picture, and the Republicans, who represent slightly more than half of the registered electorate, carved up the State house and senate seats to hugely favor their party.

Democratic districts are heavily democratic, like 70% democrats, while Republican districts are more like 55-65% Republican. The scene repeats at the national level. There's a 16 to 9 split on congressional seats based almost exclusively on how the boundaries are drawn.

That's also why most of these House and State legislative races are over after the primary. There's no point in the other party challenging because they can't overcome the demographics.

There are exceptions of course, but not many.

To the fifth anonymous....spelling does not count on this blog.

Bingo, open secrets.

open secrets,

you are right about some of your facts, but:

1. There are more registered democrats in Florida than Republicans. 3.8 million Rs and 4.1 million Ds.

You are right that now that republicans are in power they will draw the districts to favor themselves.

However, remember, the Democrats were in power for over 100 years.

In the 1992 reaportionment process, the Democrats who were in charge (mostly white jewish democrats from Broward) wanted so badly to protect their seats, that they pretty much sold out the african american legislators, who decided that they would form a coalition with the Republican legislators, and vote on their own maps, more favorable to the blacks and republicans.

Two years later, the republicans took over the Senate, two years after that they took over the house, and two years after that they won the governor's mansion.

In the end, there are still more Ds in Florida, the wide margin of Rs in statewide elected office to Ds is not particularly representative of how the districts are drawn though. The anamoly occurs because moderate democrats are more likely to vote for Rs than moderate Rs are likely to vote for Ds (that really doesn't happen)

Show some respect, not only for the Congressmen but for the constituents.

Shouldn't the Congressmen be showing respect to the constituents as well? Shouldn't they be getting off the embargo train, even if for a day, to get some more milk for the abuelitas at the comedores? Some federal funding to alleviate the traffic jams? Brokering deals to bring corporate relocators and their jobs?

If these respectable congressmen are such hot shit, why does the one boondoggle for south Florida (Cocnut Road/I75) have to be an earmark by a Congressman in Alaska? Let's be cynical for a moment: These guys can't even play the game right. And they were in the majority since 92! These guys are camels. They carry the water, and ask for very little of it in return. Since all they gotta do is keep the holy embargo in place...

Maybe if this Country elects... the Diaz-Balart rivals, you can enjoy a high tea with crumpets with the Castro brothers...

Are you the hook, the line, or the sinker?

How's my spelling? Comemierda

Best regards,

Cuban republican

You are a total embarassment!
I am not the hook, line,or sinker, just a regular guy that goes to work everyday to make an honest living, and do vote for the candidates of my choice. We do have that right in the USofA. And to sit here and be insulted, called an idiot by you, and then a comemierda; dude you have no respect for the voters and the readers of this blog. You have no class and are spineless. You need a total overhaul of your character. Lets talk again in November when your 2 boys get rocked.

What have the Diaz-Balarts done? Here is one example: $100 million dollars in order to keep SouthCOMM and the thounsands of jobs it provides in our community from being sent to Tampa or Atlanta. Here is another: millions of dollars for UM's Ryder Trauma Center. Ask Donna Shalala if you don;t believe me!

-Cuban Democrat who would never vote for corrupt Raul Martinez

Geniusofdespair said...

I would support Raul. Don't think he is a great but I am worried about our next supreme court justice. We need more Democrat choices on the court--- if by any chance a Democrat should win the Presidency (not likely) we will not get another Clarence Thomas or Antonin Scalia to replace the more liberal John Paul Steven who is 88 (and probably dying to retire). I am also worried about Ruth Bader Ginsburg's health. Republicans appointed 7 out of the past 9 judges. So, to me the Raul Martinez win is a must to keep the Judicial branch honest, if not with appointments then at least with a rigorous "Robert Bork" type hearing.

GoD, Martinez in Congress would never get to vote on a SC appointment. Only Senate does that.

Thanks Nonee, glad for the civic lesson, my mistake....I am not the real G.o.D i make PLENTY of mistakes and need the readers to keep me accurate. Forget that argument but

...there are many more that I could bring up where a clear majority would help to start reversing all this conserative crap passed during the past 8 years in the guise of "security"...

I am still hot on getting more DEMOCRATIC Senators for the benefit of Supreme court appointments...
