I just heard from the Business Journal, it is the Lobbyist's son not the fire-plug shaped father. So correct my article in your head to: "Developer" and away from lobbyist for the name Gutierrez. Not as funny but still amusing. Surprisingly, the article still seems to work since lobbyists and developers are cut from the same cloth.
I laughed pretty loud reading this SFBJ article. It is fun when a Lobbyist and Developer go head-to-head, you don't see it often. And, it isn’t often I agree with a Gutierrez but I do over Rubio-ass-kisser Cancela. Read it all in Cancela consults for Jackson charity. Here is a gem from the article:
“However, Public Health Trust board member Armando Gutierrez Jr. said the lack of transparency and the amount being paid to Cancela is an outrage.”
What also is an outrage: How did Armando get on the trust board? Oh, it appears this might be how:
“Gutierrez, who donated $6,000 to the foundation last year...”
Well, if anyone can spot another black kettle, it is Armando (I guess the son too). More from the article:
“Cancela registered as lobbyist with the county 21 months into his consulting contract. Last spring, Cancela gave the presentation to county commissioners that helped pass three pieces of policy that let the foundation build on county property using donations of up to $5 million. The policy also allows the foundation's executive director to award construction-related contracts of less than $200,000 without the board's approval.
Miami-Dade Commissioner Carlos Gimenez said he had spoken with Cancela about Jackson, but thought he was a volunteer. "I didn't know he was a lobbyist," he said.”
Read the whole article there is a big part about Cancela’s ex-wife weaved in:
“Realtor Rosy Cancela is on the boards of both the foundation and the health trust, but said she didn't know her ex-husband was a consultant to the foundation. Rolando D. Rodriguez, the foundation's executive director, said he didn't tell Rosy Cancela about her ex-husband's consulting deal.”
Gimme a break. And how did she get on this board?
Also read the latest Oscar Pedro Musibay article on Armando, Jr.: Hotel and green office building planned near Jackson Memorial:
"Armando Gutierrez Jr. is partnering with local Marriott franchisee Bobby Finvarb on the $35 million hotel project, at 1311 N.W. 10th Ave., a few blocks south of UM's planned expansion. The 12-story Spring Hill Suites will target visitors to the university's biomedical research center, the nearby hospital and courthouse, Finvarb said."
One might wonder how his membership on the board is benefiting this project?

Lobbyists, Lawyers, Developers...all pretty much have the same goals...
If Armando is anything like his dad, we're all in big trouble. The question to ask: How do we allow these people to go on, and perpetuate...
As for Cancela, he ain't no better. Note how Cancela never ran a business that did NOT go bankrupt.
God help us!
I think we've lost sight of the point of the article, where are our tax dollars going?
You mean this article had a point? Heck, someone should have told me.
It's not surprising Rosy Cancela doesn't know what her ex-husband is doing. Mr. Cancela doesn't even remember his former wife -- the woman who helped him become socially acceptable -- is alive. Cancela used her, just like he uses everyone, and discarded her, just as he discards those who are no longer usable to him. It's too bad someone doesn't run him out of town. He's no good, and in time his present wife will find that out too, when he discards her.
The time is ripe for Armando Gutierrez, Sr., to make public what he knows about Jose Cancela and his personal relationship with Oswaldo Moran, Joaquin Blaya, Alex Penelas, and now... Marco Rubio? Does Mr. Rubio belong to that pack of dubious... men? The real Jose Cancela has nothing to do with the public image he's tried to build for himself. He is really a different... man?
