A note to Michelle Spence-Jones' on Jobs, Jobs, Jobs. By Geniusodespair

City of Miami Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones mantra has been jobs for her district. I do applaud that effort but the woman should learn from County Commissioner Barbara Jordan who also clamored for jobs before approving the Marlin's Stadium.  When the jobs for the stadium were finally advertised for a job fair they specified "bilingual." Jordan had a cow when she found out. They took the requirement out of the advertising but we all know it was still there -- hush, hush now.

In my November 16, 2011 post I suggested requiring applicants to be taught "Job Specific Spanish" so our under-employed have a chance. For example, my sister was a nurse at Jackson. She knew enough Spanish to do her job, no more. People didn't ask her for the aisle to find leche or for driving directions. In my post I said:

"The Black commissioners who voted for the stadium let the Marlins' screw their community twice over: 1) Pay for the Stadium, it will provide jobs 2) Just not for you. The Commissioners could have asked how many jobs would be bilingual before approving the deal."

So Michelle Spence-Jones, my advice to you is to be more specific on language requirements when people promise jobs. Ask them, are they willing to teach people in your district "Job Specific Spanish" rather than requiring applicants to be bilingual? As I said in my 2011 post, people rarely ask you probing questions at a ballpark. You can almost get by knowing Spanish questions and answers such as: Where are my seats? Popcorn? Where is the bathroom? Where do I Exit?  Michelle, get smart, be specific or they will just eliminate a large portion of your district even though they make you a promise.  To bolster your cause Michelle be aware, in many starter jobs, many of the bilingual hires speak very little English -- they only know job specific English.  Don't believe me? Try to get driving directions in English from a waitress/cashier/store clerk in Hialeah.

Besides the so called jobs for underemployed City of Miami residents that somehow never quite happen, the Miami City commission has helped pay for the Marlins stadium ( provided the land and paid for the parking garage), have not really seen the contemplated revenue stream from the Island Gardens project or any buildings or marina constructed, and now Jungle Island wants a new restructured deal when they have never been able to make good on their previous commitments. The residents of Miami can only hope that the future will not be doomed by reliving the past.

Ironic and shameful that MSJ is the only City of Miami Commissioner remaining at City Hall that voted to permit the fiasco of the Marlins Baseball Stadium and now she will be voting on Jungle Island’s future.

She only cares about jobs for her cousins and friends. Her corruption knows no bounds.

She learned her tricks from the best, "Shuler / Meek / Edmonson."

Marc Sarnoff also voted to approve the Marlins deal.

Isn't this the same MSJ that was charged with crimes twice and removed from office by the gov'na? How did she end up back in office and not in jail.
