Tonight at 6pm the UEL will host their Annual Orchids and Onions Awards at 1035 North Miami Avenue (near NE/NW 10th Street). Free parking.
Keynote Speaker is Mayor Carlos Gimenez. Good event, be there. Go for the cocktail hour, stay for the awards.
Rick Scott gets an onion for consistently undermining both environmental protection and good planning. Well deserved.

..only one thing to say:
GO HEAT !!! ONE MORE GAME!!!!!!
Thanks for the heads up. If it were a little later I'd be able to make it. Great event that they are giving props (and calling out the dicks) publically.
Gimenez should also get an onion or several - for supporting the unsustainable and economically unjustfiable projects that taxpayers are paying for, especially environmentally destructive projects like the Deep Dredge of the Port of Miami; for allowing (or is it orchestrating) the decimation of DERM (or PERA or whatever he renamed it); for not believing in climate change or that its man-made and therefore, not planning for sea-level rise in Miami Dade County; for not fully funding water and sewer improvements and necessary infrastructure.
Why is Gimenez getting an orchid?
Read the invite, it says why. He wrote to two letters to the State.
I hope Gimenez lives up to the (environmental) award he's getting tonight in the future. And I mean more than letter-writing.
Nice event.... Good job UEL!
Carlos Gimenez needs to stop allowing illegal LED billboards. Last years campaign promise was a zero tolerance policy. Residents are still waiting. The City of Miami commissioners and Clear Channel are making Gimenez look like a liar or a fool.
