I'm a big fan but there is a mixed message out there. The big rumor in Tallahassee at Dade Days is that Gimenez brokered a deal to put Penelas in place so that he will have more time to run. I hope this is just more bullshit.
The other question is about the strong mayor/strong county manager issue. We benefitted from having a strong mayor to stop the UDB expansion using a veto threat. Gimenez wants us to go back to a strong Burgess government. I don't get it.
Oh come on. Do you really think we are going to get a liberal mayor in Miami? When we had a Democrat - Penelas, he was a lobbyist's dream. Why don't we just get an honest guy in there. Gimenez is honest and no nonsense. I like him. What Penelas did to Al Gore was catastrophic damage that changed the political landscape for 8 years.
We need to give Gimenez a chance. We will be a shit's creek w/o a paddle if we don't. County is too complex for that Hialeah crowd. We'll definitely retain third world status if Penelas is appointed - he'll keep the Burgess cronies and all will be swept under the rug.
Carlos G.is a very straight guy, however so was Carlos A. He has ample administrative experience just like Carlos A. He was a uniformed public safety officer, who was applauded for saving a bad municipal government.
Carlos A. always believed he was right, despite what the public thought of his decisions. Carlos G. always thinks he right and never compromises, despite the public perception.
Let's not get carried away, the Mayor needs to someone who is not a demagogue and is willing to work with the public to achieve their goals and not just his goals....
Please be careful about labeling Carlos G. as a reform candidate...because Carlos A. was a reform candidate, too!

First problem: His media people forgot to put "Paid Political Advertisement" on the ad. It's required by law.
Second problem: Failed to use on screen graphics to reinforce his point. One and a half minutes is a long time to talk without memory reinforcement.
Third problem: the "Casper the Friendly Ghost" transitions are creepy.
Fourth problem: Carlos' voice is not strong enough to carry the commercial by itself.
If he's making YouTube spots, break them down into reform topics. It costs no more to post 7 than it does to post 1.
