From Matt Schwartz, Florida Sierra Club:
Late last night I received a few emails regarding an event which will take place this Sunday, April 10th at Bayfront Park in Miami (Torch of Freedom). Mapquest link is here:

Ailen Rivera - a young Miami mother of two extremely concerned about the ongoing nightmare in Japan and the possibility of a repeat scenario in our own backyard-- has helped create the Miami event.
Interesting webpage from Japan on this event - Global Day of Action Against Nuclear Energy -

The full invitation to the Miami event follows at the end of this email. I'm also linking the Sierra Club's own resolution opposing the massive expansion of the Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant (2 new reactors of over 1,000 MW each) in south Miami-Dade. Some interesting information in that resolution.

Expansion of Turkey Point - which includes 3 massive powerlines across the eastern border of Everglades National Park to transport the new juice to points north - is the last thing we should be considering right now. In spite of denials from Florida Power and Light, the disaster we have been watching unfold in Japan can indeed happen here. The licensing process by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is going on right now.
Hope to see as many of you as possible this Sunday. Feel free to spread the word. Optional - bring signs, costumes, still and video cameras and smiles. Light clothing, a hat, sunglasses, and plenty of water for a hot day on the street all highly recommended.
