Gonzalez, Farid A. Khavari, Joshua Larose, Marcelo Llorente, Darrin McGillis, Saturnino Polon, Santiago Portal, Julio A. Robaina.

Roosevelt Bradley was fired from the Transit Department by Mayor Carlos Alvarez. I wrote about him March 24, 2007.

Genius, there will be a huge split on the vote and under these circumstances, you know that ANYTHING can happen. Remember that "those bankers" move a lot of "contributions" when they start moving the cash, and then they have the means to buss people to the polls. It would be interesting to know who's beginning to move the absentee ballots... but, somehow, I have the horrible suspicion that it might be Robaina! The long list of candidates freaks me out!

election to recall Alvarez --$5,000,000.

election to elect new interim mayor --$5,000,000

run off election for interim mayor -- $5,000,000

I am sure Mr. Braman will say that the benefit of removing Alvarez, a term limited lame duck, was well worth $15,000,000. I only wish that he felt so strongly that he might chip in cover the cost. But I guess he does not feel that strongly.

Regarding previous poster "election recall Alvarez..."

BCC that is looking over it's shoulder - priceless.

I am sorry - I just had to go there.

Why do you suppose it costs $4-5 million to run an election in Miami-Dade County when it costs a fraction of that everywhere else?

Do you think this could be the reason?

Miami-Dade Elections Department Crony Salaries

Sola, Lester - Supervisor of Elections - $198,478
Prochnicki, Patricia - Division Chief, Budget & Finance - $126,412
Mesa, Sandra - Computer Services Manager - $124,641
Hartfield, Gary - Deputy Supervisor of Elections - $124,255
Smith, Tara - Chief Deputy Supervisor of Elections - $122,906
Mendez, John - Deputy Supervisor of Elections - $121,251
Johnson, Michael - Deputy Supervisor of Elections - $121,122
Pastrana, Rosa - Deputy Supervisor of Elections - $113,354
Vinock, Robert - Asst. Deputy Supervisor of Elections - $104,164
Praveenkumar, Vettikattil - Senior Sys Analyst/ Programmer - $103,313
Hernandez, Eneldo - Senior HR Manager - $102,146

Or maybe it’s the fact that the more than 1,000 county employees who work the election receive their exorbitant regular pay (with overtime) IN ADDITION TO the pay normally given to poll workers who are not county employees. The waste in county government is everywhere, thanks to George Burgess and his incompetent and greedy cronies.

to the anon "BCC that is looking over it's shoulder"

I'd add:

Seijas finally riding off on the broom she rode in on - Priceless!

As to the candidates, I need a barf bag. If the voters who voted to recall vote in the same way, Robaino will not prevail. His base recalled Seijas. I don't care how much money he receives.

To me, Gimenez is the clear front runner, but I'm pretty in tune with what goes on at the BCC. The majority of voters may not be so they'll be watching the ads and debates.

Braman is a genious. Not only did he oust the mayor & VNS, but his money bought a hell of a lot of publicity! Great advertising strategy too.

I think the only reason the Herald gave this all so much coverage is probably because Braman spends more on Herald Ads than the County or the Development interest does - at least in this current economy.

If we get good Charter Changes (not the two changes in regard to terms ending in 2024 with a salary increase and giving more power back to the BCC), this may be all worth it.

What a bunch of losers running for Mayor. My vote still goes to Carlos Gimenez.

He will do what voters had intended all along - be a strong advocate for taxpayers and clean out the dirty closets at county hall. There is so much shit in those corners and it's time to send a message to the cronies - it's time to dust off your resumes. You no longer are the inner circle who pipelines your buddies to and from new jobs. We will finally have a strong mayor that insists all jobs go to the best qualified - & not someone who screwed up in the last job but who is a friend of a friend and we will do them a favor and give them a new job title even tho he don't know shit about the job.

I like this guy. Google his name, has a lot of balls and is not afraid of the brass in Government.

OMG. A pitiful bunch of loosers; many worse than Alvarez. We know money talks so the biggest money bag will win in politically ignorant MD. Hey, Scott pulled it off with a pile of dough and so did Rubio. I long for the days of Alvarez and Crist. I will have to go with Gimenez and hope he does not move to the dark side.

Check out why Bradley was fired from the county:

I am a county employee and agree that county employees should not get paid both their salary and election pay. We also do not need early voting for every election. It also costs county departments (like the library), which are venues for elections and early voting, millions of dollars.

I have work in the election in two occasion and have seen alot going on.Supervisor and some permanent empolyees playing card games on company time. The supervisor come and go as they please. They hire and leave there buddys to work longer and give them the better jobs, and also seen some empolyees on substance abuse. The permanent city empolyees don't work they are always talking laughing very loud and i included the supervisors.I dont know how mangement allows this but this is the election dept. These are just something going but there's much more.Someone needs to clean house in election dept.

I would like to see political party affiliation of each elected official and candidates on any election whether considered partisan or not....party affiliation is critical in knowing about the candidates or officials

Great comments but this process has become more complicated than it has to be. In some way everyone is qualified to be Mayor. No one can do any worse than the previous, as a matter of fact the city has more to look forward to from the next Mayor than not. BUT just because people are qualified does not make them the best person for the job. Luther Campbell is the "Odd Ball" so to speak out the group. But is he really an "odd Ball". Seriously here we have a man who is truly from Miami, knows Miami, and is really involved in Miami. His popularity doesn't just stem from his previous career years ago, he is well respected and liked throughout all of the communities in Miami for his involvement, philanthropy and pure love for Miami. To be an effective Mayor, you have to know what the people want, you have to have an idea of what is best for the citizens not just for today, but for tomorrow as well. I'm sure the other candidates are nice people, but can they really tell you about the real Miami, can they relate to everyone from Coral Gables to Hialeah to Overtown? Can they understand the big business man as well as the small mom & pop family owned dry cleaners? There is only one candidate that can say yes to these questions, there is only one candidate that can relate to all of these people...Luther Campbell is the best man for the job.

as to the comments of the employees, permanent employees inside the elections department, all that is true. They have supervisors on top of supervisors, and then bring in non county employees to really do the work. Everyone there is related to another co worker, and is a waste of County money. There has and needs to be a total clean up.
