Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina speaks in favor of the Florida Marlin's deal on March 23rd 2009 at the Miami Dade County Commission Meeting. He is campaigning, to replace Carlos Alvarez, saying he didn't support the ballpark with the expensive retractable roof.
Only 3 Mayors did support the new stadium: Hialeah Julio, Mayor Manny Diaz and Mayor Carlos Alvarez. Even though there are at least 35 cities in Miami Dade County -- Hialeah Julio Robaina was the only Mayor to go down to the County Commission to speak in favor of the stadium deal except for Manny Diaz, who helped mold the deal. Robaina, now campaigning, is saying that he was against the stadium. Shame on you Julio, the tape doesn't lie. And, yes in his "Straw Poll" the citizens did want the Marlins to STAY in Miami. Were the taxpayers' financial obligations part of that straw vote? I think not.
Julio in his testimony doesn't address the enormous amount of money involved or the debt we would be incurring or how this project will impact taxpayers for years to come. In fact, he doesn't say anything or ask about the finances at all. Instead he focuses on an obscure promise by the Marlins to help the youth with playing fields or something else youth oriented in Hialeah (not clear)...all on our backs - the rest of the County, of course (see video below). He surely has ignored the big picture, saddling taxpayers with debt. He is not County Mayor material in my view. Expect his campaign (or his PAC) to have Marlins' funding.

G.o.D. - I have to just smile & laugh this morning at this one. When I read about the LBA debate and Gimenez challening Hialeah Julio on this, he just didn't miss a beat trying to back peddle on the issue. OMG, THANK YOU!
Now, let's hope this gets out to the voters who didn't like the County Taxpayer funded staduim financing!

Miami-Dade voters awake up Mayor Julio Robaina will be an embarrassment to our community as is his stealth campaign manager Ralph Arza that will be the new George Burgess of Miami-Dade.
Ralph Arza has been twisting arms. No doubt that Julio is the candidate of the "evil interests", as we will find out after reporting. Ponzi schemes, illegal gambling machines, loan sharking (18% for a mortgage, I don't care if that is legal, it is just plain wrong when folks are getting 6.5% in the market). He is a crook, plain and simple, and he will make a mockery out of our government. If he lies about something that he is on tape doing, what else is he lying about????
Braman will not, but the rest of the developers/bankers/lobbyists will support him sub rosa. Robaina is part of the Raul Martinez crowd and I don't care what he states, for public consumption. I know better! And yes, he was in support of the Marlins stadium, and why not? The initiator was Carlos Alvares, straight from the arms of Alex Penelas, and very much part of the Hialeah/developers/bankers/
lobbyists tight little group. As far as I'm concerned, the only man I would trust with the job would be Robaina, the "good one", and he's not running. And no, Genius, I don't even know the man and I'm not from his district, but through the years I followed his career -- since I was surrounded by politicians -- and I can say the man is totally clean! Too bad the stupid voters elected Diaz de la Portilla over him. Shows you the kind of voters we have!
I agree with the last comment, bankers will support him even if Braman won't.
Check this video out from the Gimenez campaign, rightly calling out Julio Robaina on lying on camera, with video to prove the lie. If Julio Robaina (the bad one) can lie to us about something he has to know is on tape, since he was at a public hearing, what else is he lying about?????

Golly, am I surprised! Anon and GOD, I thought you both understood this man is, historically, a liar. For crying out loud, there are people in this community who will sign an affidavit to that effect! Well, it's understood, neither one of you speaks Spanish!
