Commissioner Katy Sorenson has endorsed Eugene Flinn. By Geniusofdespair
It is official, late this afternoon County Commissioner Katy Sorenson endorsed Mayor Eugene Flinn for the District 8 seat she is vacating. Too bad Lynda. Maybe vile Natacha Seijas will endorse you? I am really happy that Sorenson got off the fence and backed Flinn. He will make a good Commissioner and she gave him a glowing recommendation. There was more to the speech but I was getting tired of holding up my phone. You can read about it and watch video on Channel 4.

Tell the whole story.
Flinn was going to primary against Lisa Lesperance for 117.
Cindy Lerner and others told Flinn to drop out and they would support him.
Like a sheep he did it.
Sorenson may be part of that deal.
It took them a day and a half to get over the shock of Lynda Bell being in the run off election.
Of course she endorsed! She is scared to death of vile Natasha's candidate Lynda Bell winning. Sorenson must be cursing herself for letting it come this far when she could have had a real influence at the beginning of the race. Now it may be too late!
What does that have to do with anything first anon?
The first Anon has Flinn-envy. Talk about peaking at the right time. Thre is a surge approaching. The Flinnatics are reving up for the big win. You can feel the energy while others are wallowing in dispair. Go Gene go! Compare the records. Not even close.
I had to erase part of a message you can't write some things that can't be checked people ... But what it amounted to was...good news.
Mr. Flinn:
Promise me you won't do any robocalls and I will vote for you. I had to turn off my phone.
Thank you KaKaKaty. Wanted to see who you would endorse.
One thing you can never say about Gene Flynn first poster: He is NOT A SHEEP. Have you ever been to a meeting in Palmetto Bay?
Katy's endorsement is important. But I have a question, if she thinks that Mayor Flinn is the best candidate to succeed her, why didn't she endorse him from the beginning? Its not like he's a "johnny come lately?"
She's worked with him on County issues - at least Flinn has made sure that the public knows he's close to her given the number of pictures he posts on his campaign website.
I know a lot of people from District 8 would have appreciated her endorsement of Flinn before going to the polls. Maybe he would have won a majority on Tuesday and won the seat outright -and we all would have been spared a run-off.
I always wonder why politicians sometimes do this.
Cato, you didn't really think I was going to print that did you?
Sorenson said from the beginning she wasn't going to endorse until after the election. I think she wanted to see our picks. Had it been Annette and Gene she might not have endorsed. Do you think she wants Bell to roll back all she has worked for while on the commission?
Should be an interesting run off. Wonder how many campaigns will be in it? I figure at least 4--Natacha's, Wayne Rosen's, Gene Flinn's and Lynda Bell's. Money to burn in local politics. That is what we will see.
What? I didn't post anything here. I was censored by Gimspierre quite unnecssecarily I think. Re a comment about our STRONG Mayor.
Have I been a victim of identity theft?
OMG!!!!
Mayor Flinn is hardly a johnny-come-lately. He announced for this seat pretty quickly after Sorenson announced her retirement. And its a better fit for him than the state legislature. He has the essential experience in local government, which is much more than the other candidates' mantra of voting against the UDB and voting for recycling. Local government is budgets, zoning, procurement, services, taxes, fees, bonds, etc. Flinn knows what he is doing; the other candidates, eh, not so much.
Sorry Cato, thought you were bashing this post, trying to keep it positive, it will be a long 2 months otherwise.
Katy always said that she was refraining from endorsing anyone and would reconsider if there was a run off. Didn't take her long to make that decision did it?
The Herald should really do a story on Rosen and Latterner and the hooligans at Homestead City Hall.
I am simply delighted. Look at how proud he is to have her approval. She is a wonderful woman.
The Herald would not know a story if it bit it in the editorial butt... unless it has to do with Cuba, or some other Central or SoOuth American country, or its leader or wanna be leader. There is not much follow up anymore, but, hey, that coverage reflects it readership...too many well placed people and corp's are benefitting by the bad acts of elected officials everyday and we would not want ot start anything would we, editorial board ?
Now that Comm. Katy Sorenson has endorsed Gene Flinn: the real story and question is how did Gene Flinn and Lynda Bell get so many absentee ballots?
Will this be the battle of Comm. Sorenson vs. Comm. Natacha Seijas? Inquiring minds want to know.
Perhaps Al Lorenzo, Armando Gutierrez or David Custen are at work??? The next question if they are: is who is paying them? If only the Herald and TV had a nose for news...
Bell's comments in the Herald today are incredibly arrogant and well planned to create the air of a partisan race. BTW Ms Bell, how did you create the thousands of jobs you tout on your facebook site and how do you propose to create jobs as a commissioner without more govt boondoggle contracts. You are just not an honest campaigner but your are the queen of bullsnot.
Sorenson's Endorsement:
"Eugene Flinn is my choice because I firmly believe he is best suited to the challenges of the district and the county. He has an impressive track record. As Palmetto Bay's founding mayor who was reelected by an overwhelming majority, he has the skills and knowledge to hit the ground running with a long list of accomplishments an history of getting things done - from the founding of a village, to is establishment as a "Village of Parks" to the construction of a green village hall on a transit corridor. His service has shown me and the citizens of District 8 that we share similar values and priorities.
We share a commitment to smart growth. He passionate about the environment - Everglades restoration, the importance of addressing climate change, energy conservation, promoting jobs including job growth in a renewable energy economy. And preserving our open lands and green spaces.
Gene Flinn will also be a strong voice and vote for something very important to our citizens: holding the line on out-of-control development and urban sprawl.
Gene Flinn understands the importance of our agricultural industry and will help farmers address the challenges they continually face.
He will be a champion for the civil rights of all our residents and will continue the work of helping to stabilize neighborhoods hit hard by foreclosures. That means fighting blight and crime in vulnerable parts of the district.
We know that Gene is committed to principles of good government and citizen participation, and I firmly believe that he will uphold the highest ethical standards as a public official, as his 8 year record shows.
This is going to be a tough race and it's a clear choice between the candidates. I hope the citizens of District 8 will become fully engaged learn all they can about the candidates and the issues, and then vote for the person who can best represent District 8, Eugene Flinn."
What do you mean, so many absentee ballots? The results from absentee were very similar to the overall election results. Here are early and absentee results.

Bell was slightly ahead of Flinn after absentee ballot counting, Flinn pulled ahead once early voting was counted and stayed ahead by the same margin as all results came in.
The fact that Flinn did slightly better on election day voting could reasonably be explained by voters being disgusted by all the tricks being pulled in the last week before the election!
Come on Linda Bell? How did she get all those votes? Flinn is the natural choice....we all want to Hold the Line right! And he will keep key staffers in place, that will have institutional memory.
Some of Katy's staff are not so good. Jeremy Glazer is the best one and he is going with Katy to UM.
