The Miami Herald has a very good article detailing the Kendrick Meek/Stackhouse connection. Kendrick tried to get the bum money from the Federal Government twice (Kendrick had to halt one payment from the Feds) while his mom was lobbying for Stackhouse (who is awaiting trial for stealing more than $1 million from a fake project). Sorry Kendrick, you can't distance yourself from your mother now. Won't work.
Anyone who doesn't believe I sometimes know what I am talking about and that I can size up an issue, should read my December 28,2007 post and then read today's article in the Herald. You can also check out this blast from the past. And, this is my best article EVER on Carrie Meek. The Herald missed this one big-time!

Do we really need more info on the Meeks. The only reason he is running is to line his pockets just like his mother did.(when will she be indicted?) . Its about time we get rid of there crooks. He thinks because he is black he has a shot at the election and we have a black president who is also trying to turn us into a welfare state. I grew up in a nation where what you earned you kept. Now I must help support a welfare generation. Kick out all the bums with Meek being the first.
I NEED TO SHAKE YOUR HAND. YOU HAD THE KENDRICK MEEK STORY FIGURED OUT LONG AGO, THANKS AGAIN.
I think it is a giant leap to call either of the Meeks crooks first commentor. I think it is more accurate to say they have had lapses of good judgment that has made me very disappointed in them both and would make me not want to vote for Kendrick for Senator.
Someone should really take a long-term lookback at the Meeks. Who in Miami-Dade have been their benefactors? On what boards have they sat, and for what purpose? Why was Wackenhut one of Kendrick Meek's early sponsors?
Who has benefited from the constant stream of federal assistance, particularly for low-income housing, to South Florida? Who would have benefited from the Poinciana Park project? Was Stackhouse a frontman for someone else? Why does Liberty City seem to be such an attraction for failed social experiments like the Liberty City Charter School?
Just goes to show, not every Democrat is good and not every Republican is bad.
It depends on the person.
I never believed Kendrick Meek when he said he had no idea how his mother got the new Cadilac and that he "had no idea" his mother was taking money hand over fist from the now indicted Stackhouse scammer.
Now the Herald writes he was trying to get money for Stackhouse too.
Just read that great post you wrote in 2007 about Carrie Meek. So that you can connect the dots ... you listed the other officer of Carrie Meek's nonprofit as Lucia Raiford. Lucia Raiford Davis is the daughter of Carrie Meek and sister of Kendrick Meek. She works for Miami-Dade County as the Director of Human Rights and Fair Employment. She makes about $200k/year. If you file a complaint for discrimination with the county, she is in charge of the investigation.
Has anyone considerd Ferre?
Kenrick's goose is cooked.
His only qualification is keeping Bill Clinton out of trouble in the 2008 campaign.
Carrie Meek has evaded public scrutiny over her association with shady characters for too long. Hopefully that will end as the media is willing to/eager to expose it. Kendrick Meek isn't much better, he is just a generation behind on gaming the political system. Still, he is better than a man who made hundreds of millions scamming financial markets on credit default swaps. I prefer the devil I know to the devil I don't know.
Let me see if I understand. Dennis Stackhouse hired Carrie Meek to serve as his lobbyist on the Poinciana Project. The only congressman who delivered money for the project is Carrie's son, Rep. Kendrick Meek. But I am supposed to believe that Kendrick did not know his mother was a lobbyist for Stackhouse and Kendrick never spoke with his mother about the project. Come'on!
Her ascendency to political power almost thirty years ago came directly from the people. Her initial campaign run was unprecedented in the history of the county. She had helped so many people during her long career as an educator that her campaign was like a major convention in the Black community. Her campaign headquarters was packed everyday with hundreds of people wanting to volunteer to work. It was an amazing cross-section of Miami-Dade County. There were welfare mothers, public housing people, her past students, college professors, brothers from the hood, teachers, preachers, administrators, church people, business people, union people, educated, uneducated, white, black, hispanic, rich, poor, fat, skinny, beautiful, ugly. You name it they were there. And she ran and won in one of those huge multi-member districts.
Her ascendancy came directly from the people? What a joke! Carrie Meek was simply a black Democrat who ran for office in districts composed predominantly of black Democrats. Once she won that first State Senate, it was impossible for her to lose. Black voters have a long history of supporting black incumbents regardless of how crooked they are. If you doubt that, just look to Alcee Hastings who was impeached because he was a corrupt federal judge.
First anon. You grew up in the glory days of the 1930s then right?
"kept what you earned" yeah right - if you were a robber baron or titan of industry maybe. Everyone else paid taxes. Used to be the rich paid much more in proportion to their income, but now seeing as that's somehow "unfair" the middle class gets that distinction.
Assuming you aren't 80 years old (and collecting social(ist) security and getting your Dr. bills paid by that terrible Medicaid) then you've lived in the dreaded "welfare state" your whole life. Tax subsidized roads, trains, airports, farming, ranching, energy, medicine, education, and even recreation just to zip off a few. Wake up.
As to Meek - his candidacy is a testament to the weakness of the Democratic party to develop talent that can compete statewide. Besides all of his baggage, he's just not a stellar candidate. I doubt he'll carry his hometown counties in the general with Crist now borrowing Democratic positions in his independent bid.
