Campaign Contributions Related to Parkland Mega Development. By Geniusofdespair

Yes I know Parkland has been deferred but I took a quick look at campaign contributions anyway to County Commissioners, during their last election, from people (and their Corporations) that own an interest in Parkland. As you all know, there is a $500 limit on contributions so to get around that rule, people routinely make contributions through their various corporations.

The Unreformable Majority on the Miami Dade County Commission received between $75,000 and $100,000 from Parkland interests. That is my estimate from the donors I could recognize, it is not a complete list of all donations, I would say my estimates are low.

Natacha Seijas - got the mother lode. $11,000 from Pino, $1,500 from Guerra, $6,000 from Easton, $1,000 from Rodney Barreto, about $5,000 from Cardodo, etc. — her total about $25,000 from Parkland interests.
Dorrin Rolle - got about $13,000, and
Javier Souto - got about $8,000 (Easton, Pino, etc.).
Joe Martinez - got a total of about $10,500 ($3,500 from Michael Latterner, $1,900 Pino, $4,500 Easton).
Barbara Jordan – her total would be about $10,000. (She got $4,500 from Ed Easton, $2,000 Herran/Guerra. $1,000 Machado)
I didn’t do a complete search on:
Audrey Edmonson - got $5,000 from Easton and $1,500 from Cardoso, $1,500 Herran/Guerra.
Bruno Barreiro - Sergio Pino gave him $2,750 and Ed Easton gave him $3,500.

Residents stand before the county commission like lambs to the slaughter. They think their comments against community- destroying development will make a difference. But the glassy eyes and telephone-talking commissioners portend a commission already bought. A few like Souto, Martinez, Moss and Seijas, if they are paying attention at all, will rip into the public accusing them of being stupid, selfish and even corrupt for daring to oppose a project by their compaign donors. It works; eventually the people stop wasting their time. As long as there is not serious campaign finance reform, the people will never beat special interests' influence. Who is willing to risk home and reputation to change the system? Not many! So they keep on being elected by outspending any opponent with special interest money.
