Developer Ron Bergeron Begs for Everglades Help. By Geniusofdespair

In today’s Miami Herald Fish and Wildlife Commissioner Ron Bergeron begs for help for the wildlife at risk because of flooding in the Everglades:

''If we don't start doing something, we're going to end up with a total massacre...''

Bergeron, an engineering contractor, is president and owner of Bergeron Family of Companies, based in Ft. Lauderdale. Hey, wait a minute, wasn’t it Ron Bergeron that developed to the edge of the Everglades in Broward? As we previously reported on January 20th, The South Florida Business Journal, said of him:

"Today, Bergeron owns multiple businesses including Bergeron Land Development, the largest road contracting and site development business in the state; Bergeron Sand Rock and Mining, which produces materials for development companies; and Bergeron Properties, a real estate company that develops housing communities, shopping centers and industrial parks."

What do you think? Multiple Personality? And, what were you thinking Charlie Crist when you appointed him? Maybe you were trying to outdo your other bad appointment: Rodney Barreto.

I couldn't help but read in the article that they went to an island "south" of tamiami trail, where he had seen a buck, that was getting flooded out.

Wouldn't opening up the trail to more water flow flood out more of the area south of the trail?

Too bad his Broward County dikes aren't sponges.

I think Crist should start appointing people who already understand what high water does to animals; giving the appointment to the developers who help create the problem as on-the-job environmental training is dumb.

Good post. Glad you caught it. Believing that Ron Bergeron is an "ambassador" for the Everglades is like being asked to buy insurance on the Titanic from an insurance agent on the Titanic.

Unfortunately Crist has turned out to be just another Republican who really does not care about the land, the people, etc.

Crist may not be bad; but why do all the economic boards get stuffed with insiders, but only the environmental boards allow anyone with a green bone in their body to "balance" the board? Why not put citizens on these other boards, involved for instance in the financial scandal. Why do we have a government by corporate interests?

To the person who said "they turned paradise into Kendall".

You're right. So no one on here should complain a lick if they live West of 57th Avenue or South of Sunset. If you do, you are part of the problem. Why didn't you urban infill?
